You'd both be wrong. It is OBD1, was just running datascan on it the other night. USDM changed to OBD2 with their series 2, seems JDM didn't. It already has Nistune installed, so not expecting a nightmare.
thanks, i was chatting to eric last month about this and I'm sure he mentioned it was the US only that went to OBD-II post 97. Thanks sim, now i want a 2k LOL
Well I guess the guy who designed, made and sold the diagnostics cables that were the most popular on the market and the first to have USB interface must be wrong then. It's not OBD2 if you define OBD2 by the type of plug that it has but if you go in to the wizzy thinking bits insde the ECU and look at how they work and talk to each other etc it's not OBD1 either. Safer just to let it be and say "has OBD1/consult plug so is OBD1" there's only a few out there smart enough to understand the differences anyway so no point in trying to educate the rest of the population & suffering through the endless internet arguments etc. What was installed in the USDM was not true OBD2 in any case even though it has the OBD2 plug and works with some OBD2 software etc - but that's a whole different argument. Flame suit on. EDIT: Flame torch on Here is a comparison between the early 8bit ECU and the later 16bit ECU: (8 bit on the left) Take note of the physical differences between the two, now consider that there has been a hardware update so it only makes sense that there is a software update also (insert monumental amounts of explanation) and therefore an update to the self diagnostics software etc. Flame torch off. Jono I think you will find if your car has Nistune fitted to it then the original ECU is long gone and was replaced with a series one ECU, take note of the differences in the ECUs. I'm picking yours will have something very different to the one on the right above.
A type 3 nistune board has been devekoped specifically for the 16bit z32 ecu's. I would expect that is what Jono has. The type 3 board has been available for some time and I sent several out when doing the gb's.
Ohhhh! interesting I didn't know anyone bothered with them We just fit real computers over here
Looks like a series 2 ECU to me: While I was in the area of the ECU, reference pic of the standard issue flare: I'm guessing the 2004 is the expiry date & the 2000. 2 is the year and month the flare was made.
hey sim in the photos the white looks different from car to front bar ,fb looks a bit greyer than white is that right
Under florescent lights it looks a different shade, but under natural light it looks fine. Not sure if it's worth respraying or not at this stage.
not worth respraying if a genuine 2k bar were to go back on this car. it's one of the few that should definitely have an original 2k bar IMO. i had one of those flares in my integra. should have kept it, regret not doing so
She never has to wonder where he is. If she wants his attention, just flick the light/power switch in the garage and wait for "yes dear?"
I'm lucky, the missus gave me the green light in the first place to purchase another car (my third). The plan was always to sell the 2+2. Today I took the slicktop for a long drive down the east coast. I hit a fresh roadkill possum sitting in the centre of the road. I made contact with the carcass with the undercarriage. There was a couple of loud thuds, a cloud of fur and a rolling possum in my rear view mirror. The joys of having a lowered car. Now that I'm home the Z is up on stands as I pick the guts and fur from under the car, no damage. FUN TIMES!
Today I swapped over the compressor housings on the turbos. The kit I have from CZP uses a two bolt adapter on one side & a three on the other. Though the compressor housings look identical, they aren't & they were on the wrong sides. I've never clocked a turbo, let alone pull one apart so it was a learning experience for me. Nicely coated compressor housings with the adapters fitted: Naked Garret:
