Reading is boring, here are some pics. The following show the damage to the B-pillar that I wanted repaired. Here are pics of the repair work. I'm happy with it, but the bottom of the pillar where the weather mold sits isn't quiet right. It's very close and hopefully can be sorted without too much effort. The mirrors look great too. I'll post pics once they are fitted (which will be after the over-spray has been rectified).
I stripped the window molds off & removed indicators etc... to make polishing easier. After closer inspection the black over-spray has coated the entire car. Here are a couple of pics (from my phone). 13 years of crud under the 1/4 window weather molds. This pic is of the fender area right next to the headlight. Lovely isn't it? :bash:
Thank you If he doesn't get it back to how it was prior, I'll be demanding a respray [TIS] What I'm finding hard to comprehend is how they didn't notice
Yeah clay should work. I've taken overspray off with a claybar when painting at home. That said if it's someone elses ****up let them deal with it...
Well that's it. It gets tiring fixing others mistakes/f#ckups. The nice thing about this ordeal is that he was genuinely surprised and shocked when I notified him (it may have been another worked responsible). He straight away said he would fix it up for me. Although it was a major stuff up & not something you would expect - he has offered his own time fix the mistake. I took today prepping the car to make it as easy as possible to get a good result. Window weather molds have been removed, as well as the indicators and bonnet washer jets. At this stage he is coming after work Tuesday night. So hopefully I'll have something positive to share.
you have the same battery trickler as me. good little units how they have the plug attached to battery for easy removal and adding
So last night the painter & I cut and polished the car back. We then gave it a wax which I polished off this morning and then hand washed the car. There are still sections that have overspray that will need to be polished out by hand. The front bumper requires clay baring. Windows have been shaved with a razor blade. The painter is coming back tonight to clay bar the front and then re-wax. We are also going to try adjusting the drivers side door to better line up with the body. Anyway, pics don't really show this kind of thing well but here is how she currently sits. I hope to fit up the Ganador mirrors & new window molds this weekend and put the interior back together.
Thanks, I'm trying! While the rest of the body was getting sorted I thought I may as well remove the windscreen/roof molds. I plan to give them some Plasti Dip action I also stumbled across what the bonnet vents are from, the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R. No wonder I didn't like the look of them
Maybe you are right, your's just looked to be higher, but after viewing some more pics, the vents are recessed into the gti-r bonnet a bit, where yours sit on top
The slicktop looks SO much cleaner without the roof molds. Operation "Over-spray, go away" completed. I used a heat gun & stanley blade to remove the rubber from the roof molds and have sprayed them with Plasti Dip. I broke a handful of clips while removing the molds, so new ones have been ordered. Just have to wait for them to arrive so I can re-install the molds. I also spoke with a paintless dent removalist this week. I hope to have him over early next week to get all the dings out of the doors. The I'll be installing the new window molds, Ganador mirrors & putting the doorcards back on.
Got a pic of the plasti dipped molds? I did mine this afternoon too but it didn't come out very good ( didn't scrape all the crusty rubber off )
I don't, sorry. Pretty boring really, I wasn't going to take pics till they were fitted. I can take one if you'd like though?
I left the outer edge rubber in place, as it hangs lower than the metal. I just removed the rubber from the top and inner edge of the molds.
roof mould clips Jono, Did you manage to find a supplier for the front and end roof mould clips (closest to the windscreen and the hatch). You will have noticed that they are different (black top part of the clip). The mould wont sit down properly if you use the alternate white clips that Z1 and Coz supply in their place
