According to a very good friend with extensive knowledge and experience in the automotive diagnostics industry the 16bit ECUs do have a primitive early version of OBD2, exact details I don't care to know as the original diagnostic gear still works with it - that is all I am worried about.

ANYWAY manual conversion 100% complete, all engine related bits n bobs back in place (except rear of exh), coolant system filled and bled, fresh pair of big black lines installed in car park :D

Actually goes REALLY well, only "mods" are a Trust air filter, half the exh system missing and no front bumper but she is no slouch that's for sure :)

Will pick up the 99 spec front bumper tomorrow and order some bits to make a new exh system for her.

Wife took it for a short drive around the car park and is already saying it drive better than the prelude LOL!! ficken Hondas....

From what i've read recently, OBDII compliant vehicles had a 16 bit ecu. Why im interested in yours, to see the plug/wiring layout :)

Good news for us! Have you thought about what you'll do if you want to fit larger TB's? Use the old style TPS perhaps?

All z32's are obd1 regardless of year or ecu, except for 1996 us cars.

Plug on the ECU is the same as the older ECU in case anyone wanted to know so the new Link G4 300ZX ECU will just plug in and play as will all other 300ZX specific after market ECUs.

No desire to run bigger throttles etc but if I had to I would just go to a Link G4 and fit the older style TPS as you say - in case there are issues using the older style with the newer ECU.

The 16BIT ECUS run a different diagnostic systems to the 8BIT ECUs, it's not strictly speaking OBD2 and neither is what the 96 spec USDM Z32s had.

96 USDM Z32s actually ran consult two but it's not technically OBD2.

I'd rather not have the thread trashed with the discussion on what diagnostics the car has, I personally don't give a crap, I've asked the man who will know more about it than anyone on this forum and he has confirmed the above.
Lets just leave it at that please :)

Looking really good, Glenn. Wife seems to do a neat job with the paint also. I reckon you should have the stone guards painted silver when you have the front done.

Update (no pictures just yet though)

Top of rear bumper repaired and painted
Leather parts turned up and fitted - looking good!
    Stereo fitted
Speakers fitted (the car had one speaker in the left hand door, all others removed)
Rear of exh fitted (just a stock second hand unit)
    Steering wheel boss kit fitted
    Second hand temporary wheel fitted

Took it down the road and got a WOF (roadworthy inspection)
Registered as well - sort of legal! :D

Needs some petrol and balance the drive shaft, then we can put some miles on it and make sure everything is working as it should :D

I will no doubt be dragged back down to the workshop sooner rather than later so wifey can have a look at progress and check out her new stereo etc.

Will get some pictures then :)
Will be nice to get it out of the shop and crank up the pace on the Mainline and the slicktop - and a few other projects waiting in line.

I like the way silver paint looks without the clear coat, wifey didn't take any photos after the clear coat was applied - the camera had a little incident involving free fall and the concrete :( all fixed now though and maybe tomorrow pics of the bumper fitted :D

    Update time!

Today the car was dyno tested with the stock ECU and exh etc so about as stock as you can get except for the pod filter (mighty car mods claims no extra power anyway LOL! :p ) and a manual conversion.

Ran 183Kws at the hubs on about 7-8PSI

Fitted the brand new Link 300ZX plug in and play G4 ECU and tuned it to around 193Kws at the hubs but made some excellent gains midrange etc, no other changes were made just fit the ECU and tune.

After the Christmas break I will fab up a full stainless exh system for it and we will test the next model up from the G4 that includes a built in knock box and all sorts of wizzy stuff :D

Car goes very well and has a super flat torque curve, peak torque is about 3000RPM from memory and stays there all the way to 7K.

Didn't print off charts as we don't really care that much with this one, as long as it goes well then all is good :D

Nah no "well done" required - yet

A pretty picture, finally got the nose panel painted and fitted:

Moving on to the rest of the interior for a while now, plenty of little things that need attention, will get the air-conditioning working as well.
