The previous owner had this car for 14yrs apparently and took it apart at least six years ago to go nuts on modifications - it never happened and some parts went walkabout :(

Anyway the time came for the guy to let it go so I snapped her up for cheap and will do my best to save it from being parted out as he originally suggested.

As she arrived on the trailer behind my ute:

Damn rats ate the lining inside the hood :(

So before she left the trailer I gave her a good wash to see how the years in the garage had treated her:

The wheels are just so it rolls, I may steal a set off the other project I have

Oh noes :( oh well, full leather kit and the best of my vast collection of spare seats should help sort this mess out:

A little cleaner but I can see there is a fair bit of work going to be needed in here, maybe some parts from Z1 will help me make her beautiful again :)

Those that haven't spotted the clues, she is a 97 tt 2+2 sadly an autotragic but I may fix that :) want to get this back on the road ASAP so stay tuned for some stupidly fast progress :)

Oh! Pretty clean! Should be a nice car when it's all done :)

Fold over trailer mudguards, presumably so the car doors can be opened. Interesting.

Yip, except with a lowered Z32 the door still hits the top of the tyres LOL!

No need for a big single - she's alive!! :D

Changed the oil and filter, put some fresh fuel in her and a new battery, temporarily wired up a SH ptu and she fired in to life :)
Compression test carried out and everything is all good there, oil pressure is great, no lifter noise so everything is looking pretty good so far.
Started throwing parts back where they belong and cleaning out all the dirt n crap on the way:

Took this lot out and went with stock gear with slightly lower springs:

If I left the arms and coil overs in there the car has to have a cert, so this would mean drive shaft hoop and cat convertors and $520 fee for the cert.
Can't be bothered with all that at the moment so will build it stock enough that no cert is required :)

But yes I am crazy regardless

Yeahh I've gotta get around to fixing that!

So plans for the car are..?

Immediate plans are make it go and get it on the road for a shakedown - make sure it hasn't got any gremlins to cause engine trouble or something.

Once everything is all good, manual conversion and full leather interior conversion, tidy up paint and then either sell it or wife will ditch her Prelude and drive this.

I hate the Prelude but I like money so it's a tough call at this stage, this will be worth far more than the Prelude when it's sorted BUT it'll take a fair whack of cash to make it mint. More money for my pocket to tidy it up and sell it but I really hate the prelude

Right so progress was slow but steady and no pictures today.

Got some very good news, air bag and steering wheel + clock spring were missing from the car even though I was told they were there
    (I seriously hate liars!)

Any way new price for the bag and wheel in excess of $3500, clock spring no longer available :(

BUT NZ law allows for removal of the airbag steering wheel if the car is older than 14years old and you get the alteration certified :D

Normally there is no way I would take the air bag out unless is was a motor sport car but in this instance it seems the logical - or at least economically sensible direction to take :)

Momo steering wheel to come :)

Seeing as I have to get a cert I will sort out a couple of other things i would not have done otherwise, HICAS will get deleted - does not operate without the sensor that is missing anyway, manual conversion with one piece drive shaft, more boost

Wired up the airflow meter today and fired it up, runs great :D
moved under its own power for the first time in at least five years today :D:br:

How many '97 model Z's would there be in NZ? I think you should keep it, or at least of a while. If it doesn't work as the wifes car, then put it on the market.

What is involved in deleting HICAS when it is electrical? Not just an "un-plug" then?

  19. mungyz

    mungyz Well-Known Member

Same delete as a standard hyd HICAS system.
Will modify the sub frame as per my own Z (NA arms etc)

The car will need a shake down period anyway so will do some miles in it with wifey behind the wheel - if we don't die in a horrific crash then we might keep it

There are very few 97s here, my guess would be less than 50 but that's purely a guess.

    Does a good skid :rofl::br::D

Had to fit a temporary radiator to test the engines cooling system due to delays in getting my Z1 item (NOT Z1s fault!)

So got a sh item slapped in there and flushed the coolant system three times so far and starting to look pretty good, will keep an eye on things to ensure no damage has been done from the extended period of time with no antifreeze in the system.

Everything looking OK at this stage so I will order a bunch of parts to complete what is missing and get on with the manual conversion etc :)

Have a couple of urgent jobs to do so will be some delays now - that and the wife wants this so no money to be made from it :(
