A proper repair is going to mean painting the whole panel anyway. May as well get a second hand fender and have it sprayed then fit it yourself.

I see. Maybe you're onto something. It all makes sense now.

why? assuming the paint isn't faded, re doing just the skirt section is all that's necessary. that pinstripe makes for a really simple feathering in line.

Yeah you could tape it at the pinstripe line and spray as a section but... still going to have a tape line OR going to need to blend it. Sure can be done but depends how invisible you want it to be.

Painting a whole fender off the car would be cheaper and less time consuming than panel beating/bogging/blocking/masking/painting/blending I reckon. And deliver a better result.

Suppose it depends how anal you are and how easily you can get another fender.

I'm all about anal. I could tell you stories about my anal that would make you cringe.
I'll get some quotes and see what comes out of it.

On the weekend I manned up and took my door skins off. I hate taking door skins off.
I wanted to replace the speakers, and there was a pretty bad rattle every time I shut the door or hit a bump. That kind of stuff pisses me off. Makes the whole car feel old and shit.
I also knew that there were some broken studs on the skin, which I thought were causing the rattle, and wanted to fix.

Turns out the speakers were rooted. They were both like this, torn all the way around. I found chunks of speaker in the door trim :p They actually still sounded really good, even up to a decent volume. But it wasn't loud enough for me.
Anyway, replaced them with some Clarions. Nothing spesh.

Also found the source of my rattle. Lucky me, my car had these Hitachi speakers, which meant it already had the rather expensive Bose box mounty thing. Very happy.
But the douchebag who took the skin off before me, as well as breaking about 7 studs, the window switch trim, the b-pillar trim, a mount for some dangly electronic bit, and just about everything...decided to only put 3/4 screws in the speaker box.

He neglected the screw to the right there, which, being on a part that extends out, is one of the more important screws. Cue annoying rattle. I managed to find a screw that fit from another Z somewhere, somehow, and fixed it. Easy. Just wish he hadn't been so shit.

So anyway, I managed to remove the door skins and replace the speakers without breaking anything at all. Good considering I'm far from an expert at this stuff. And considering the guy before me left a path of destruction. Now I'm just waiting on replacement studs from Nissan to put in the doors, so I can put the skins back on.

And the clutch is still ****ed. Which means I can't drive it. Which means I can't really test the speakers properly. Not sure my neighbours appreciate full-volume Taylor Swift coming out of my carport.

I don't follow your logic about the speaker brand. I don't see any Bose speaker box either.

How I got around that is I removed the metal speaker plates and used a mdf template, used sealant behind the mdf where it made metal contact , dynamatted the door obviously too. Than mounted the speaker .

I personally don't like those metal BOSE mounting plates

My understanding is that a lot of Zs come with these fancy funny shaped Bose speakers. And to replace them you need to buy the metal plate to fill the funny hole and provide a more conventional one. Mine had Hitachis, so they already had the plate thing.
    Maybe I'm wrong.

I could've done all kinds of stuff with MDF or whatever, but I'm not a hugely DIY guy. I just wanted to buy some speakers, put them in and be happy.

    you're wrong :p

Bose boxes were optional. The metal brackets were standard.

Front Bose enclosures limit your speaker size selection. Metal plates, MDF of aftermarket steel adaptor plates is a better option.

Rear Bose enclosures will accommodate 6-6.5" speakers.

What you have there is the bog standard clarion speakers in the original standard metal plates (that in the JDM and USDM markets could be replaced with the optional plastic bose boxes).

    They're not Clarions.
Why would you get a Bose box? Do you mean that the option is upmarket Bose speakers, that come in the box?

The metal bracket you have is replaced by a sealed, plastic BOSE branded box. Inside the box is a small amp powering the speaker. Meant to produce better mid bass and overall sound quality.

Ooooh I see. And those have to come out to put regular speakers in. But most cars didn't have them. I think Americans might've, hence this page. It doesn't even acknowledge that some/most cars didn't come like that.

Door clips came. And some screws. Can finally get stuck into putting the door skins back on after my new speakers.

    Them new studs. So fresh.

Couldn't get the passenger side on. Had this massive gap between the door and skin. That gap which you can't really see in this photo. It's there, trust me.

OZX 320 gave me exactly what I needed.
So now, everything's back together, the speakers work great, and I can enjoy Z ownership once again. Very happy :D
Although in truth, driving the Z31 for the first time since the Vic BBQ wasn't so bad ;)
