Finally back in a Z32

I've finally picked up another Z32.
My story is long and full of heartbreak. I love the 300ZX, it looks great, I love the roof, it sounds great, and it's a blast to drive. So for my second car, I picked up a very clean '90 Pearl White NA Aus-spec 2+2 targa. I'm not one to modify and I like my cars stock,so that's how it stayed.
~May this year, it hit a tree.

I was a bit low on money and couldn't find one I liked, so I went with a Z31 to get me back on the road. It's a non-turbo '84 model in wonderful 2-tone silver and black (I wouldn't have it in any other color). Turned out to be a great choice, as it was a fantastic car. Had the roof off most days, all through Winter :D

I've been searching for a Z32 ever since. But I haven't found much. Most are modified more than I want, or just generally mis-treated. Or overpriced by $5000 :\
Last week I found my car. It's another Aus-spec NA, this time a '94 model in Cherry Red Pearl (AH3 ;)). It needs some care, and I plan on giving it that care. Like I said, I don't modify, so this is all a bunch of firsts for me. Most exciting.
Some of the things I plan on doing to it:
-Replacing the suede seats with the leather ones from my last Z32 (which have been sitting around the house for 6 months)
-Replacing some other things like targa bags/shades and boot tools with the better condition ones from my last Z32
    -Fixing the tint
    -Fixing the broken CD player
-Fixing the aerial, which only goes halfway up
-Fixing some of the body scrapes and dents
    -Replacing the shifter bushings
    etc etc etc.

    Anyway...pics!

Titanium key ;) Should've seen my face light up when the seller brought it out, he'd been hiding it from me :D

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Looks a million bucks. Congratulations. What'd it set you back?

Quick progress report on what I've currently done to it...
-Removed some of the gross crap the previous owner had stuck to it (seatbelt covers, big stupid centre mirror thing, ridiculous pedal covers). Going for full OEM.

-Took the back seats out for replacement with some leather
    [IMG]

-Took out the rear carpet, which appears to be some sort of extremely well made aftermarket replacement rubber thing. Replacing with the one from my last Z32.

-Took everything else out of the boot for a good clean.
Also scored pretty sweetly: free Sudafed (copyright 1993), umbrella, orange screw driver AND a cigarette butt.
You can see how filthy it is. Needs a solid clean.

-Got halfway through taking the centre console out...the damn shifter is stuck on tight!

-Wiped all the greasy black shit off every surface. I can't believe some people actually apply this to their car.

I don't have a garage, so I use a spare room to collect my Z parts. Currently transitioning parts between cars...so it's pretty packed ;)

Until I get it to a decent state, it's not my daily driver (the Z31 takes that honor). So it's going to stay half-stripped until I can clean it out, and clean up all the parts I took out of it ready for replacement.

The carpet in your 94 is factory Nissan, they changed to a different (crappier imho) type around the series 3 which wasn't quite as black or thick as the previous stuff they used.

    Heh :D
I don't like driving around a half-finished car. And then people get all uppity about how it's broken just because some parts are currently out of it :\
I agree, it's not as good. It's all thin and crap, you can feel the wooden boards underneath much more easily. Doesn't feel as expensive as the thicker S1 stuff.
Speaking of S1/S3, since when did the Z32 have distinct generations? From what I understand, there were many small changes every single year of its life. How do you differentiate between S1/S2/S3?

They didn't happen every year and were more manufacturing revisions than 'generations' that were either aimed to make the car cheaper to manufacture, meet new laws, or add features to entice people to buy/upgrade to the newer model. For example, the carpet in the later zeds was probably replaced because they found the cheaper carpet supplier and were able to save hundreds of thousands on manufacturing costs. This should give you a rough idea of whats what, though some information is wrong and some is missing.

Just like mine.....almost ;) mines a 93' Ones detailed up the AH3 looks mint! in the sun i think its one of the best colours along with that blue and midnight purple. What are you doing with the mags? going stock?

Wikipedia says there were changes every year, except '89-'90, and of course it doesn't mention '97 and up.
It's not made easier by the fact that things changed wildly over different locations. For instance the seatbelts are said to have changed from door to pillar at one point, but in Aus they were always pillar-mounted.
YOU have a body color mustache! I hate body color mustaches.
It does look good in the sun, but it looks good most of the time. Any time you get different levels of light over it, and you can see how the paint shifts from dark to light :p Even just parked near a streetlight at night.
I'll never get over my old White Pearl though :p
Yep, going stock. This weekend hopefully.

Because Wikipedia article applies to the American market. Can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia

The point stands that changes were made yearly...at least somewhere in the world :p

Okay, busted. I like leather whips. And ass-less chaps. Happy?

What do you mean by a colour mustache? Lol

I love you man! Going stock! (Love as in "bromance" love :p)

Love as in romantic, future-marriage love? Gotcha.

I mean the bar the foggies sit in is supposed to be black/grey, not body color. I don't think they ever came factory as body color, but either way I prefer them not to be.

Did some more stuff today. Times are tough when you're working all day in the city, and you come home to horrible weather :\
Attempted to get the stereo out, but one of the screws on the head unit bracket wouldn't budge...and managed to snap one of my shitty screw drivers. Need some WD 40 ;)
Had another go at the gear knob...it's pretty firmly stuck.
Had a look at the peeling tint on the T-tops. It appears to be an aftermarket job, and should be easy enough to remove with a hairdryer.
Tried to find out why my B-pillar doesn't sit properly. Will need to take the passenger side off for comparison's sake, but it got a bit dark by that stage.
Also removed a shitty centre-mirror attachment the previous owner put on (which left a lot of adhesive :\), and the half-snapped car yard numberplate surround.

So basically, I failed at everything I tried. I'll be back tomorrow with better tools and a vengeance ;)
