Yeah...but roads don't work like that. Ever. Roads are long stretches at continuous speed.
I love the acceleration, but when I'm not accelerating, I'm controlling my cruise.

Even for a track car...I mean I get the pure track car ethos where you want no unnecessary crap, but cruise control weighs nothing. Sure, take your slicktop, and strip the air con seats and carpets...but the cruise control isn't worth stripping. Unless it's purely a track car, which arrives at the track on a trailer and isn't road registered, it may as well have cruise control.

Pieced her all back together. So happy! It's been all bare-metal for weeks, it's wonderful seeing it as an actual car again. All that dark carpet and leather does so much.

Is it wrong to find threading targa straps to be incredibly soothing?
All 3 of my Zs have had the straps just hidden under the carpet. Either the owner didn't have the roof off (douche), or they didn't care enough to tie them down (big douche). Re-threading them is a statement of how much I care, and how often the roof is gunna be in the boot :D
I also enjoy having them threaded perfectly with no twists.

Now, the front seats didn't quite plug in as well as I'd hoped, so I'm currently solving that. Hopefully it'll all be done by the Sunday cruise!

So, didn't make the Sunday cruise, but it's just now come back together. Leather in the back, suede (or is it velour?) in the front, dash back together, t-top bags in...I'm gunna go drive it.
And of course tomorrow is a holiday, so I'll post some juicy pics tomorrow night :)

Weather was nothing special, but the first real drive in the Z32 went off without a hitch. A few spots of rain on the windshield, nothing worth putting the roof on for ;) Went for a ride up Arthurs Seat, one of my favourite spots, and down to Flinders to visit some family.
Came out looking pretty good...it's not even clean, just a quick wash and shamois :D

Nice and clean dude, you've got velour interior fyi.

    Velour! Thanks :D

After installing the cruise control (which works perfectly - thanks Abraham!), tried to screw the little accelerator/cruisecontrol cable bracket back in...broke the head off the screw. Those engine bay screws are cactus! I manage to screw up the simplest job :p

5mm drill bit, 6mm tap time.
Just putting the 5mm bit through will most likely release the thread and unwind it back through

I always seem to stuff the ones at Hicas motor thingy .

If that's in the engine bay, I'm not shocked. This one was munted. I remember when I took it off a week or so ago, I tried with a screw driver (because I'm a fool), the top just gave like butter. Should've been more careful after that.
But many of those low-load engine bay screws look pretty similar, and they live under the same conditions. Wouldn't be surprised if they're all shit.

OZX, a friend suggested a WD-40 bath followed by attempting to get it with pliers. Might work, I can grab the bottom of the screw (as seen in the pics), and considering how soft it is it might come out okay.
Otherwise I'll be findin' a drill and taking your advice :p

Got that damn screw out. Was in a good spot, reachable with pliers.

Got my tint stripped. It was pretty dodgy on the t-tops, peeling and all that, and pretty much the same on the rear window (which was causing bad visibility).

The existing tint also had this awful blue reflective quality, which you can sort of see in the quarter window here:
I know some Zs came with a standard blue tint, but I think this one was aftermarket, and I hated it. I like the whole glasshouse of the 300ZX quite a lot, I don't like having it all reflective and darkened. Just me I guess...

Also tested some forever black on my brake reservoir cap:

The two photos were taken in different light, but the results are very pleasing :D I don't even know what I'm gunna blacken...but maybe everything.

Also, my battery died. Bad cell apparently, which can cause explosions apparently. Apparently. So that was a nice surprise when I tried to start the car for the tint removal appointment.

Got some stock wheels on there.

Astute observers will notice that two of the wheels are on the car backwards :\ No fault of the place that put them on, a previous owner had fitted the tyres on the rims in such a way that the rims had to be put on wrong. Will be rectified later this week.
Also, it seems the previous owner tried to put on wheel nuts that just didn't fit, which shredded one of the studs quite badly. So you'll notice I'm missing a nut on the rear wheel.

Also made an apple pie. It turned out pretty much perfect. Pastry broke apart a bit when we tried to cut it, but we made the whole lot from scratch, so it's all knowledge we can apply next time.

    You replacing that fender?

I'll be doing something with it. Whether repair or replace, I do not know.

Well, you can pull off the fender and push out/bog the dent then repaint just the side skirt section, cutting it off at the pinstripe (may as well replace the pinstripe around the whole car while you're there) or replace the whole fender after having it painted to match. Unless you can find a good condition fender to match your paint, I'd be going with the former :)

Gunna be hard to find a fender in Cherry Red ;) probably see if I can get it repaired. It needs all sorts of little body jobs, I plan on getting some quotes soon. Not looking forward to it at all.

So currently, the clutch throwout bearing appears to have shat itself. Which is a shame, because I've only had the car a month or two, and I'm getting over throwing cash at it.

Could've been worse. Happened the day after the Great Ocean Road cruise, much better than having to limp home from the GOR.

I was just about to get some quotes on the body work too...it'll have to wait until I can get her fixed up.

Here's another one of those posts no one really cares about...
Swapped all the crap out of my red owner's flippy thing that was rooted, into an immaculate one I found at the wrecker's.
Car was sold in May '94 to a David Andrew :D I love this stuff, it's so sad that most of it gets thrown away by negligent owners.

That last pic is of the two little booklet things, the Sept '93 one came out of the Pulsar at the wrecker's. I guess they actually reprinted this book every year. How exciting!

    Right guys?

Looking better everyday. Any tips on removing window tint? Did you heat it up or anything? Did it peal off nicely?

Some JDM molded stone guards might hide the dent, just another idea.
