I take it you got your disco potato's from CZP? They are the same as mine (minus the coating).

    NIStune Install

Not a giant update, but pretty significant I guess. Had my NIStune Type 3 board installed into my '97 NA Auto ECU today by Trent at Chequered Tuning. All went smoothly and the install was very quick. His numbers matched the ECU to a NA Manual, however when I doubled checked the part number when I got home, I confirmed it to be a NA Auto, not that it makes a giant amount of difference now anyway :)

    The NIStune board itself.

    The ECU board.

The NIStune plugs into the black strip there, the strip must be soldered into place on the board.

Trent also updated the injector value to suit my Nismo 740cc's that I'll be running, so in theory the car should start when everything's done and dusted, great!

I like how you said "in theory" I wonder if yours will cough away like mine then fire up with a burp

No two ways about it man your cold start issues are due to your tune....

Cold start shouldn't be touched in theory. It should still have stock cold start settings/parameters exactly as it came from the factory.

Also agree with this, unless you have massive cams with big overlap like 280*.

When mine gets tuned I don't want the cold start touched at all, start perfectly as is.

What's changed when they play with the cold start? Parameters I mean.

Ignition timing is advanced on cold start a fuel mixture is on the rich side, not sure what else.

What I'm getting at is the motor doesn't know what turbos are hanging off it as your not boosting... Well shouldn't be whilst cold.

I'm running GT2860r turbos still yet to put 750cc injectors in and tune it, once injectors do go in and I get it tuned its going to be tuned to adjust for the huge increase in airflow through out the rev range due to the larger turbos and that it will be running 20psi.
At cold start however why would we make any drastic changes, runs fine. Maybe I'm totally wrong but that's how I understand it.

Makes perfect sense, but then why do people have problems? Or is it a case of people fixing things that aren't broken?

I've not heard of people having this problem who use Nistune. Stand alone ECU on the other hand - Cold start settings is one of the hardest things to get right & sometimes you just get it a good as you can & live with it.

Never had a problem with cold start with haltech and 1000cc injectors.

Don't even have to touch my accelerator .

I guess so, nothing wrong with the way I've done it though, right?

I'm sure it's cold start you're running way too rich... Easy fix though I had similar issues last year. ECU put in and tuned in summer, cold start began playing up (too rich) in winter. Just needed an adjustment.

    Plenum Shaving Pt 2

Continuing on from my earlier plenum shaving post, here is some more progress. Wasn't going to cut off the factory EGR blanking plate or the PCV/Water hose blocks, but I got offered a free welding solution to plug the holes, so I decided to take it.

Had some small imperfections in the casting, I assume just some trapped air during the casting process. To smooth the gaps, I used Kneed It, waited till it dried, then sanded over.

    Result.

Not a giant amount more to do on it other than weld up the holes, final smooth then off for powerdercoating!

On a related note, I got my Brembo's back from powercoating. Couldn't be happier with the results, here's the test caliper, the real calipers have a much better finish.

    It's all coming together ;)
