    I have put a deposit down on a zed so the seller doesn't go sell it to any one else :) All that I need to do is get a checked over, I would prefer to take it to some one who knows zeds, I looked at RAC but what they do is basically what I did with that check list that's available in the tech section. How ever I did have on my list for it to be taken to SpeedWorks for a bore scope - Compression Test.But is there any where I should take it in particular for an inspection?

    Details...>

    1993 300ZX TT 2 Seater Targa top Metallic Blue
    * Manual, Short Shift Kit I believe
    * Heavy Duty Clutch, with bugger all travel
    * Turbo back exhaust I believe, as pipes going to the engine were rather big. * Aftermarket suspension of some type
    * Rear strut brace
    * Electronic Boost Controller
    * All the stuff as per the factory, targa bags and shades etc.. * Full Bomex Body Kit
    * 17" Rims with some dish on the back (255's rear)
    * Maybe more?
    The car has 120,000 Km's on the clock the Interior and exterior is in immaculate condition looks like genuine KM's, car felt very tight and responsive when I test drove it, I was hooked - sold from the first drive. !! :-Z

    [image]http://www.iinet.net.au/~mwv/T000138818.jpg[/image]The guy that I am buying it off works some strange hours and He is only free from 2pm Thursday-Friday
    So I planed to try getting it into SpeedWorks for one of those days.
    But the car it's self resides up in Yanchep, untill it moves to my house, not far down the road.

    Things to check....

    Just make sure youve checked the reciepts for the 100k maintenance stuff. Otherwise expect to add $1000 to your first bill.With a color change, check the quality of it. Make sure your happy that the engine bay is the same color, old paint isnt showing through. If hes just gone over the old color rather than stripped it down then when you get chips or something in it, or crack that fibreglass front bar, you'l be really annoyed if there is bright red or something showing underneath.Make sure there is no body damage and the frame is straight. New paint and body kit are often done after this sort of damage.With 255 tyres big exhaust and boost control, its obviously driven with spirit, check what boost levels are set on the boost controller. Get under the car before you take it for inspection and clean any oil off from the turbos or the engine. that way after youve driven it there its easy to spot anything new.Check the ECU for codes.Hope this helps.

    More Details....

    The guy bought the car at 115,000 KM's he said, He (His DAD) is selling the car for his son who is up north working, I believe his dad paid for the car and he said he wouldn't let him take it up north as its not the type of car to drive up there.... any way. He hasn't had it for very long and in that time he has had it serviced and installed a new Clutch.
    He's been taking to a mechanic who also owns a zed, I am yet to get the details of the place where it's been taken. But that's all the papers he has for it. Prior to that he doesn't know, as I talked to him about how important certain items are in the 100,000 Km service, I don't think his son knew a great deal about zeds when he bought it, and still doesn't. Is there any easy way to see if it's had any part of the 100,000 KM service done? or does it require a few hours of pulling of covers to look at stuff? As for cleaning it and Driving it, I haven't bought it yet. I told him pending the results of the compression -bore scope will determining the final price, or if I will buy it at all, but currently I have him at $18,250 sound too high?

    As for running an ECU diag.. I don't want to be pulling out cables and shorting out the wrong wires and stuffing some thing up, Maybe they could do it for me at SpeedWorks. So that blue color in the picture isn't normal? It looked fine when I went and inspected it, and when I look in the engine bay nothing stood out as being 2 different colors, all though I cant say I was looking for it.

    Sometimes....

    A sticker is put on the timing belt cover with the date the belt was changed. Otherwise I doubt you will get proof unless you can find a reciept. At 120,000kms it would be the very first thing I would do. You should be able to barter a better price as it will cost a fair bit. Without doing this you are risking your $18,000 purchase requiring a new $7000 engine rebuild at any moment.When you get it done I highly recommend getting the parts from Coz at concept Z performance. There is a kit with the 100k parts plus an underdrive pulley and belts that is very cheap compared to what you pay here. Then you just pay for labour and will save a lot.Running an ECU diagnostic is dead easy, you cant damage anything. All it takes it a screwdriver and 3 minutes. Read the tech section.As for the paint, no the car never came in that sort of blue to my knowledge. Just have a good look and make sure your happy with it. Check areas inside the door jams, boot etc for any trace of the original color.

    I'll give you a call later in the week as...

    As the guy has gone away for Easter, and gets back Monday or Tuesday, and Isn't available until Thursday-Friday after 2PM, and Saturday & Sunday.

    Kalamunda is a fair trek for you, the guy lives in Yanchep, but I plan to have the car down at SpeedWorks in Osborne Park Thursday or Friday some time after 2PM maybe we could sort some thing out for then,
    But best let me know what times are good for you and I'll work around it.

    Thanks -Scott

    Ahh, that's actually a standard colour

    Just have a look at Risk's Zed.
    As far as 100,000km service goes, just look for a sticker on the timing cover stating when it was changed. If it's not there then you'd be better to assume it hasn't been done.
    I can never remember if Speed works are the one's in Myaree, or if that's XSpeed. If it's the one in Myaree then they do know a fair bit about Zeds, so trust in anything they might dig up. The ones in Ossy Park I wouldn't go to but that's just me.I go up to Brighton tomorrow, pity we couldn't just go the extra few k's to Lancelin to look at this new beast hey? :)BTW, I'm in Kalamunda every day as that's part of my area I work in mr TT, I'll look out for your Zed when it finally gets here.

    Preformed ECU Diagnostic today + More :( ..>

    And got Error Code, 34 (Detonation Sensor Circuit)
    Now is there any possible way the car could boost more than the safety boost setting with this error code? Because it's still boosting above 9.5Psi.
    Could this indicate a custom ECU MAP or bypass of some type?

    Note... It does have an electronic Boost Controller, so does that effectively bypass it?

    Was also wondering if it is running at STOCK ECU MAP would the DET sensor cause the timing to be retarded hence I am not experiencing its TURE power  Also when I started her up and awful screeching sound came from the car, possibly starter motor?, It did not happen last time I started it and test drove it. I also looked for a service sticker on the timing belt cover like you said and found it had it done at 103,000 Km's so that's all right. Any one care to say how much a DET sensor is and a Starter Motor? As I will bring his asking price even further down with this discovery. Snapped a Pic too, I love the twin Tipped Mufflers.

    Screeching could be one of the belts

    mine has done that, especially just after a change.Cheers

    det sensor

    the det sensor is availble from ttzed.com $340 ish
    but the big $ come in to it when fitting as the upper and lower intake have to be removed to gain access.your electronic boost control will bypass the safety valves that reduce boost, but the ecu will still be running retarded timing.
    on a stock 93 auto rom im looking at it can shave upto 5 deg off the advancement. as for the screeching sould its a good bet its a belt slipping.

    It is a zed from autoworx, Complied by them>

    Any thing I should know that you knew ? :)
    The compliance plate said it was complied at autoworx.  I do have the VIN number on the Compliance plate but I don't know how to read it... you can extract the year out of it cant you?  EDIT:: I looked at the Build dates thing in the tech section
    Click Here

    And the part in the VIN number for working that out on this one I am looking at is 540388
    That Falls into the 93 category.

    Just bypass the det sensor..

    with a 3c resistor from tandys. There are pros and cons to this but everyone does it. Not worth the expense to replace it IMO unless your doing something else in that vicinity at the same time.Yes timing will be retarded if its a stock ECU. May not be if its aftermarket depending on who wrote the chip.With an aftermarket boost controller it will not affect boost.

    Care to explain this bypass? :)

    As in how to do it. Thanks.Like what sort of resistor.....
    I didn't see any thing in the tech section maybe I will look again
