I guess you gotta look on the bright side, could of been more than 1 finger

It's not until you've got it all bandaged up and can't use it for a while that you realise how important these little suckers are. hope it heals up quickly,

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

We Tasmanian are made out of stern stuff. Jonos attitude will be something along the lines of, "Oh well, I've got 9 others"..............!
Probaly will give that belt a little more respect (and clearance) now I expect!
Fortunately the finger was not neatly flicked clean off................... Get fingers trapped in a plain old V belt and the fingers are usually removed with the precision of a surgeon.
Damn that kinda thing happens so quickly and for a few seconds you stand there looking at it wondering why in hell you did what you did!!!!!

    Heal up soon dude.

    Take care

    Wow, that's some nasty stuff.
Certainly, not the Chrissy present you would want this time of year.

Maybe the Tassie Zedders could organise a cruise to Hobart, organise a BBQ, couple of drinks and drop by to give Jono some 'moral' support.

    Get well soon Jono.

First of, thanking you all for the kind wishes. I'm in good spirits & am very aware it could have been a whole lot worse. The surgeon is very happy with how things are going, so if things continue the way they are going, I'll be fine.

I'm doing all the typing with my left hand, so it's slow going. If you can be bothered reading, below is what happened...

I working on the Z Tuesday morning before work, doing a few little jobs at once. The car was up on stands, I'd just changed the oil and filter & was checking to see if my radiator bleed tap was still leaking after changing the o-ring the day before.

It appeared to be fine so the next job was to refill the radiator and bleed it. I turned the car on was was adding coolant, watching the air bubbles blah blah blah. I had unplugged the coolant temp and dash temp sensors the previous day to clear the idler & surrounding area. They were still unplugged & getting close to the timing belt & didn't want them to get caught. I reached over and reconnected the dash temp sensor & as I went to grab the other my partner startled me.

I chatted to her briefly as she was heading to the shops. As she headed off up the driveway I continued to re-connect the plug. While doing so, my partner yelled out to me whether there was anything I wanted/needed from the shops. I looked up at her & before I knew it... CRUNCH! I knew exactly what had just happened!

I felt a immense burning/throbbing sensation in my finger and remember looking down at my finger & seeing a lot of raw flesh and blood. This was then followed by me saying "fark" rather loudly & asking my partner if we should go to the hospital. She was more freaked out by me, I was actually ok. I won't say I didn't go into shock, as I busted into a cold sweat & my vision was going a little blurry for a few seconds there.

My partner thinks this is weird/funny. But after wrapping my hand in a tea towel & telling her to lock up the place, put my bonnet down etc... I went & grabbed some chewing gum (cause I hadn't brushed my teeth yet) & some deodorant (as I hadn't had a shower yet that morning). Then on the car trip to hospital ( not even 5 minutes after the accident) I rang work to let them know I probably wouldn't make in due to the accident I just had.

When I finally got to hospital at around 10am there was a LOT of waiting. I was told I needed to have surgery, so they had me fasting. I was fasting for two days as no one knew when I was going to get to theater. Finally I had the surgery on Thursday arvo. The surgeon came & saw me that night & told me it was a rare procedure & very complex. I was in theater for just on 4 hours.

I was finally released Saturday morning & have been told to take it very easy & keep my hand elevated. All the staff I talked to were impressed by the wound & amazed I didn't request pain killers. My pain thresh hold is pretty good, this isn't the first time I've endured a nasty injury. That said, the still made me take a panadol every six hours.

I am having to re-visit the hospital every two days (& at 7am I might add... d'oh!!!), but I shall keep you all updated with how it's going. I stuck a For Sale sign on the back window of the Z two days before the accident. I don't think she liked that very much & she's out to get me!!!

Thanks again for the support. My message to you all... Sh!t happens, but try an avoid it if you can :)

Hope you get well soon Jono, terrible news... though be greatful your finger wasn't permanately removed.
A caution to those who do work on their own cars. Saftey first.

I take it the zed is running again or are the interment issues still there??

Correct. Just went & started the b!tch then. It's still up on standings & now it appears the oil sump plug is leaking every so slightly. Good god, give me a break haha. Easy fix & not important at least

It does suck I now have all this spare time & can't use it the way I'd like. The Z still needs lots of little things done , like re installing the rear seats etc... It will all have to wait a while now.

I was thinking the very same thing, Kurt! I checked out the engine bay this morning & apart from the piece of finger found under neither the car, there are no signs of an accident.
