Jono (SIM300) has asked me to post this up as he is having a little trouble typing at the moment Managed to get his middle finger on his right hand caught between the timing belt and the idler. Be careful people, Jono said he was only distracted for a second and it was all over! Take care around belts, specially timing belts as they grab easy. The man himself. After the operation. Where the skin graft was taken. All the extra gruesome ones are on my flickr account if you want to look. Pretty gross :vomit: Clicky for gruesome piccies
Saw this pop up on facebook.... jesus man thats very very bad... hope you're ok and no long term damage was done... pretty horrific pictures... Get better mang. Elie
reminds me of when I dropped the 1 tonne oven on my thumb. Looked like lasagne ( my mate said) In oither words Ewwwwwww, I feel your pain Jono
No Mike, it wouldn't have. My finger was crushed & spat out in under a second. The engine happily continued to idle as I stood there bleeding everywhere. Thanks for the well wishes crew, I appreciate it. It didn't tickle & I got a first hand look at how bad our public health system can be.
Hell mate hope you recover quickly. Also hope theres not to much blood on the motor l.o.l . Seriuosly though get well quick mate. I like not having belt covers but they where put there for a reason and i'm really carefull if the bonnet is up and the motor running but i guess it takes just a split second. i have been thinking of making a steel plate that runs across the top of the cam belt area and i think that photo has just given me the motivation. Whats the nurses like and do they do a good sponge bath. Get well dave
Holy freaking shit Jono what a horrible thing to happen!! Hope you're not in much pain and wish you a swift recovery.. Martin
Bugger. Get well buddy. My mate had the top of his thumb taken off thru a motorbike sprocket. These things can and do happen! Keep safe everybody - PPE FTW I plan to leave my covers on so that I can hide the adjustable cam gears... will get you a emissions defect here in NSW
holy crap!! being a fitter i've had my hands & fingers pinched by v-belts before, but never anywhere near that bad Here's to a speedy recovery mate
Ouch, doesn'tn look like much fun I gotta say though, love the way there's always time to take detailed gore pics haha ;D
nasty - glad its not worse get better regards Linda oh - why do people leave the belts exposed to weather anyway- is their a reason like keeping an eye on the belt or something- serious question?
Hope there are no long term issue mate. Managed to put the tip of my middle finger between a brake caliper and a wheel spoke once I was lying beside the car and reaching under to grab an axle stand out, I stuck my other hand up on the wheel to help pull myself back out from under the car, the wheel turned (pretty fricking obvious now  ) finger between BBS wheel spoke and brakes = broken tip of finger and blood n shit everywhere. This sort of thing really really hurts Merry Christmas!
I cringed before I even saw the pics Jono. Glad you are OK and I hope you are counting your blessings knowing this could have turned out far far worse than what you have got away with. BTW, nice to hear you say the words 'it kept on idling'
someone's gotta ask ...... what was he poking around in that area for with a running engine ??? Scariest one for me..... servicing the brake on the cranes winch drum did a test run and my shirt got caught between the wire cable and the spool, dragged me in to the point where I couldnt breathe Most painfull ...... feeding my right hand to a 4" angle drinder 13 stiches later..... and a few years aswell .... & its still very tender I cant actually run a scrubbing brush accross the hand at all without a involintary intense reaction
