    You Sir >>

would be the last to comment.
    Just for your info:
The 60k sign was some 5 klms in length & in the middle of nowhere. I mean like, 20+ klms in any direction.
No built up area or farms etc for some 20klms in one direction & some 50lkms in the other & in a National Park.
SO don't judge others, when you, yourself have in the past admitted to being caught out.:p
    Cheers Shane

Hey Keza, we don't get that leniency here in Vic >>>

doesn't matter whereabouts in the state you are, 25km over the limit gets you a licence suspension, and if you're in a 110kmh zone, I'm not sure if it's 15kmh or 20kmh over puts you in the same boat. Wanna come over here and see if the NSW licence saves the licence???

    Cheers, Mikey.

Ah hah!! I warned you all I would join! BRILLIANT!!

I'll have to watch 'Chain Reaction', that's if I can find it at the local video store...

As for Ron's comments about expendable Skyline drivers from Victoria, why I oughta...

I had a ball, was made to feel welcome, developed a new respect for Zeds; Ozz even let me belt his around for a bit and I didn't get any bitch slaps!

Seeing as though the presence of a 350Z didn't cause too much of a stir, perhaps next time I might come in my humble Skyline...

    Information for those

What penalties apply for Speeding in NSW?

    NSW Speeding Penalties

If your vehicle is detected by a fixed speed camera, mobile speed camera or Police Officer you will incur a fine and licence demerit points.

There are licence suspension periods, similar to the minimum disqualification periods applied by a court, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h (3 months), and by more than 45 km/h (6 months).

The following table displays the fixed penalty notice fines for speeding as at July 2004.

The information given below is a guide only and is subject to change at any time without notice.

    less 15 km/h = 2 points = $130
    less 30 km/h = 3 points = $208
    less 45 km/h = 4 points = $579
    more 45 km/h = 6 points = $1,597

A one-month licence suspension or minimum disqualification period applies for any driver caught travelling more than 130km/h but not more than 140km/h in 110km/h zone (this offence does not apply to drivers restricted to a maximum speed limit of 100km/h or less such as learner, provisional or heavy vehicle drivers). This will apply in any case not covered by suspensions or disqualifications listed above. In addition, a traffic infringement notice fine of $208 ($313 for drivers of vehicles greater than 4.5 tonnes GVM) and 3 demerit points apply to this offence.

Listed below are the penalties if you are convicted by a court.

    less 30 km/h = $2,200
    less 45 km/h = $2,200
    more 45 km/h = $2,200

On declared public holiday long weekend periods in NSW the demerit points for all speeding, seat belt, child restraint and helmet offences are doubled, and all other offences increase by one demerit point.

    Demerit points scheme

    Demerit Points Scheme

Demerit point information given on this page is a guide only and is subject to change at any time without notice.

The demerit points system is designed to encourage safe driving. Coupled with financial penalties, demerit points have proven to provide a strong incentive to drive within the law.

    Accumulating points
When a licence holder accumulates a certain number of demerit points, his or her licence will be suspended. The number of points varies for different licence types as follows:

Full unrestricted licence holders (gold, silver or magenta) - 12 demerit points in any three year period.
    Provisional P1 licence - 4 points.
    Provisional P2 licence - 7 points.
Unrestricted licence with a good behaviour period - 2 points during the good behaviour period (see details below).

    Note:
You can check the demerit points currently on your driver's licence or request a copy of your driving record through this website - check your demerit points online.

    Suspension periods
Reaching or exceeding the demerit points limit results in licence suspension. The RTA will send a Notice of Suspension to licence holders who reach or accumulate more than the number of points detailed in the preceding section.

The period of suspension that applies depends on the number of points accumulated and/or the type of licence held.

For unrestricted gold, silver or magenta licence holders, the suspension periods are:

    12 to 15 points: 3 months.
    16 to 19 points: 4 months.
20 or more points: 5 months.
For Provisional licence holders, the automatic suspension period is three months.

    Good behaviour period
Unrestricted licence holders who receive a Notice of Suspension due to the accumulation of demerit points can apply for a 12-month good behaviour period instead of serving the suspension. This option is not available to Provisional licence holders or those already serving a good behaviour period.

Drivers who accumulate two or more demerit points while serving a good behaviour period will be suspended for double the original suspension time.

Unrestricted licence holders can apply for a good behaviour period in person at a Motor Registry, but must do so before the date that the suspension is due to take effect.

    Automatic licence suspensions for speeding
Automatic suspension or disqualification periods apply to drivers who commit a serious speeding offence:

Driving more than 45km per hour above the speed limit - suspension or disqualification for six months.
Driving more than 30km per hour but not more than 45km per hour above the speed limit suspension or disqualification for three months.
Driving more than 130km per hour but not more than 140km per hour in a 110km zone - suspension or disqualification for one month (excludes drivers restricted to 100km/h or less).
These offences also carry demerit points which are added to the driver's record. These points may contribute to another suspension period, either immediately following the speeding suspension or at another time, if drivers reach or exceed the demerit points limit.

    Refusal of a licence
The RTA may refuse to renew the licence of drivers who have exceeded their demerit points limit or have committed a serious speeding offence. The periods that a licence may be refused for are the same as those that apply for suspensions.

    Double demerit points
In NSW, double demerit points have been successfully introduced for speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences during holiday periods such as long weekends, Christmas, New Year and Easter. This is due to the comparatively high number of serious accidents that occur during these times. Records show that when double demerit points are in force, road fatalities are reduced. Since double demerit points were introduced in 1997, there has been a 20% reduction in fatal crashes over the relevant holiday periods.

Other States and Territories have introduced or are considering double demerit points.

you got to hope that the idiot in blue is right....

or you are looking down as a habitual offended scheme and 6 month suspension.....I hope for you sake he is right. The last time I was teaching rider training there was a rural scheme city scheme and northen rivers scheme. the last I heard was tey brought the rest of the state up to te northen rvers scheme..... good luck it can be a long 6 months.

    wow thats huge!

I dont think Ive ever seen a speed sign THAT big before. If they make them that big over there then there is hardly any excuse for not being aware of the speed limit :)

    Well Chewy

Honestly there were a few of us doing over the speedlimit at more times than once, so, we are all to "blame" it's just potluck about who was leading at any one given time.

Ahh, chain reaction - Steve Bisley and his

stepside custom HX ute. And that sinister black LTD driven by "Pluto's men"!

Also had Hugh Keys Byrnes as the good guy at the end - the Toecutter from Mad Max.

    Good movie

Sorry we missed this one - The Snowies are my ancestral

diggings - dating back to a little place near Ingebyra in 1853.

Great for skiing in winter, and absolutely awesome to drive on in Summer. Glad everyone had a great time - Mia, Leilani and I will have to find a way to join in on the next one. I wonder if I can convert the 2+0 into a 2+1/2??

Re the nasty speeding fines, has anyone thought to check on the gazetting and/or legality of plonking a 60kph speed limited section in the middle of a country road? Was the speed limit decreased in stages, or did it drop straight to 60? Was it permanent, or temporary? Was the sight distance to the first 60kph sign adequate for a driver travelling at the open speed limit to see, acknowledge and respond to? Was there more than one 60 kph sign? Was it there for a reason? If it was for roadworks, was there any other evidence of roadworks (eg workmen ahead signs?) Maybe it's worth looking into.

    There were no admitions....

    You're slightly incorrect there...

...Keza is walking away with 6 points lost and $1600 out of pocket. Because I've got a WA license and NSW doesn't play well with other states, Im only out of pocket $1600. I double and triple checked this with the officer that booked me and the Senior Sargent with him and now because NSW record all the conversations I have proof so in worst case if I do get deducted points, I have a leg to stand on!

    Skyline tagging along

Great to hear. Well I figure we're all Nissan (there's always an us and them...) so if we move one step up in the ancestry we're the same.

Whilst I like the rear styling of the Zed, I believe it doesn't quite match the crisp, muscular lines of the Skyline flanks. Perhaps after spending some time behind me you'll begin to agree...
