Since ive had my z ive always wanted white gauges, First try i ruined them.. they were teriable quality. Then these came up.
Im quite happy with them, The temp gauge doesn't work properly, no big deal there and the revs are out by about 200rpm Nor is that a problem.
Also the LED's are creating massive heat spots, so ive ordered some EL Paneling to evenly light up the gauges.
In other news the Z is officially mine. Got it transferred into my name this morning :D

    EL Gauges

So as i said earlier l.e.ds made massive hot spots, so instead of stuffing round with diffusers n differnt leds i decide on el panels.
They are the same thing used to light up the rear center panel for those who dont know what it is.
They are powered by these units
    [IMG]

Anyway for those who want to know how to do this simple conversion read on otherwise scroll to the bottom and you can find a pic of what it looks like installed.
What you need to do is make up some templates for the panels so you can cut it out accurately.
Note i ended up having to trim alot of it off as it wouldn't sit flush under the gauges. It would stop the needle.
Then trace it onto the el panel and cut out.
Now once the panels have been cut to shape, you need to slide them under the gauge, and then run the wires through a hole in the back of the cluster (sorry no pics)
Then you need to solder on the wires to the connectors (make sure you cover the wires with shrink wrap or electrical tape good, i managed to blow a panel up last night and spent today fixing it.
Once all the wires are soldered on, Simply connect the wires to the splitter so you don't need to wire in 1 million inverters.
Then wire in the el panel inverter (the black box thingy) red wire to power (illumination) and the black to ground. I took the power from the clock connector.
Finally connect the splitters to the inverters and test!
you must retain globes in the rear of the panel to make the needles glow.
    Finally the finished product
    [IMG]
Also please realise that these are aftermarket gauges and are quite thin, thus not the best quality thats why the back of it goes weird in the temp gauge
I would be willing to do this for people at the cost of the el panelling (available in a few colours) For the price of the panels, plus a little extra for my time.

not bad, i would suggest to try and block the extra lighting coming down on the boost and oil gauges.

What i love about these recaros, is the fact that they are comfy, and actually make you sit properly.
Had to take a hammer to the rails to make them fit aha
The only thing left is maybe buy a new set of rails as the current ones are half genuine half home made , and get a retrim.
Id like to thank mmarschell for sending these to me!

A rail will save your life, smacking it with a hammer is silly

They're extremely hard to fit. Mine are supposed to be genuine z32 rails and take hours to do. That reminds me, I only have the passangers side bolted in at the front, have been meaning to get replacement nuts for the rear for about 6 months :p

In other news, a full respray is on the cards later in the year, aswell as finally getting my stereo moulded in properly. Anlong with the respray will there will also hopefully be a twinZ Rear bar and twinZ ring.

What color are you respraying in? And what color was your car originally, just out of interest?
And how well was it resprayed? Do you ever see slivers of red poking out at you?

Same colour, the car was originally white.
Not very good at all. And yes i do, a few panels where replaced with red ones as it was written off once upon a time.

Woah, quite a history. Are you going to strip it back for the respray, if and when it happens?
I hope it was plain white, if someone resprayed the pearl white I'll be very upset.

So ive been lazy lately and havnt updated for awhile, and i suppose whilst im doing nothing in Queensland I would.
So first off Front strut brace is installed, and fits great. after some persausion.
Also the rear is in. This took agesss ahah anyway basically i was after a clean install with access to my coilovers. For the access i used nissan exa coilover covers which worked a treat. Thanks Scott! Heres my guid on what to do.

To gain access to the coilovers neatly you will need something along the lines of these:
Mark where they are to go
    [IMG]
Then using a drill, drill holes into each corner and the center to allow access for the use of a jigsaw
    [IMG]
Cut out the section you have marked
    [IMG]
    And test fit
    [IMG]
    repeat for the other side.

For the strut brace its basically the same thing but slightly more difficult and you will need to cut an oval hole.

    the almost finished project:
a very blury photo of the finished install:

In other news I just obtained a set of brand new rose jointed rear camber arms for next to nothing..

  20. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

I would have put a strut-brace sized hole in the Exa piece, and a small vertical cut on the lowest point to get it over the bar then cut out the trim piece to suit. Slide cover off, across the bar gain access. Looks a bit odd as is.

Stop in at Clark Rubber and pick up some rubber edging, it'll look much neater. I trimmed my strut tower covers for the same access and used it.
