As some of you may know (and many more probably do not know), I recently purchased Chilledpain's '89 TT 2+2 Auto. I sincerely hope he doesn't mind the following alterations. :p

Performance mods as I bought her:

Not sure if any are missing on this list... there seem to be arandom switch etc that I haven't got any idea the purpose of. I also pulled out an RJ12 wire which was running from the front of the car to the back when I was installing my audio system.

At any rate, I'm just going to use this thread to list away the changes and maintenance I'm going to be doing over time.

    Body As I bought her:

As Jamie(Chilledpain) has taken immaculate condition of the interior and mechanical aspects of the car, the external appearance is the main thing I'm going to be tackling at the moment... I also got her tuned today by Tom @ PZP. More info on the tune below, but for now I'm just going to list what I consider the things that need to be done and that I have done in the week I've owned her so far.

Ignore the terrible photos - I haven't had the time to wash, polish her and take her to a shoot-worthy location.

    Rims:

The 20" rims were not exactly to my liking. They also had a somewhat negative effect on the handling of the car - I could feel the road a bit too much for my liking. As such, out they went! For now I've replaced them with the 17" rims and tyres that I had on the red z. Might upgrade to some smooth 18"s but we'll see how we go.

    <-- before: 20" chromies. after: 17" non-chromies -->
Again, excuse the terrible photography. I don't have the time to clean her and take proper pics at the moment. :( Ooh, you can see me in the chromie.

    Tail lights:
    <- before. after ->

Goodbye, ferrari tail lights. Hello 2k-style lights! The infill panel is cracked and will need replacing soon.

    Bodykit:

Currently the car has a full veilside c2 kit. The front bar in particular is not really to my liking (I prefer a more subtle approach). I thought the veilside front might grow on me, but I've decided I'd rather a more subtle, flowing front end. This is where ztoy's modded 2k spec front comes in. More info on this when I have the bar here. Side skirts (kaminari or bomex) will likely be next on the menu on the "bodykit" side of things, but this will be awaiting an input of cash.

    Paint:

Unfortunately the paint needs a bit of help. While mostly good, there are a few dents and gouges on the body, and a single spot of rust near the passenger side tail light. Also some slight fade on the roof. I'm a bit picky about these sorts of things at times. ;)

    1. Gouge in paint, rear drivers side.
    2. Couple of small dents in the bonnet.
    3. Front drivers fender - scratch/dent from where the front bumper has popped off and hurt the guard. (difficult to see in the photo).
    4. Faded section on roof.
    5. Lone rust spot.
    6. Fuel filler gouge/dent
    7. That darn infill panel...

There are a couple of other gouges/scratches and small dents in the body that I'm also going to look into fixing. Worst case scenario I'll be getting her a full going over and a respray. :)

The only other thing that sort of irks me is the auto box. I'm not used to driving an automatic so it's surprisingly been a bit of a learning curve to figure out what's going on with the gearbox, when it'll shift down, etc. If I end up not liking it in a month or so, i'll end up going for a manual transplant. The shift kit and hi-stall certainly make the car behave nicely though. :zlove:

Got her tuned by Tom at PZP this morning, and she's making ~309hp at around 14/15psi. Tom's suggestion was that there may be a fair amount of waste gate creep stopping the boost from going any higher, so I'll have to do a little investigating this weekend. Dyno sheets will be attached when I get around to scanning them if anyone is interested. :)

    Any suggestions/input/criticisms fully welcome. :br:

Does it have stock shockys? or coil overs? I might go take my 20s off my xtrail and see how they look on the zed I think :)

looking alot better already :cool: keep it up this car will look great when the kit has been changed ;)

the power is a bit confusing though. your roughly pushing 230rwkw with some good mods there. i would have est it to be well into the 250-300rwkw range. keep us updated on this

Looking good. Will be good to see that veilside front bar go. Glad you reverted back to stock tail lights and the rims look much better now. Keep it up.

but it does seem low on power for the mods (sorry altari, just my opinion)

i want to see dyno sheets, will probly give us a hint to where the extra power is missing from hehe.....having said that, ive been in the car and it is an absolute bullet! ran good times at the strip in jamies hands as well i think......was it dynoed with the heavy chromies on, that wouldnt have helped the power output much.....

The auto box and High stall would be sucking a lot of power from it. I know of a few 450rwhp skylines that went down to 390rwhp-ish with a high stall auto......but ran better times.

    Hey Andrew

You only tried to keep this one quiet mate
We found out about you buying this at the last cruise, plus I sort of guessed what was going on when it was taken off for sale thread :D.
Apart from spending money to make it your own, I hope you are enjoying the car.
Will catch up with you at the next event, I hope :D.
ps. dont go too silly with the extra power
    Andy

Already pulled the rims off before the tune. Those things are wayyyy heavy. Also I don't mind if it seems low on power mate, wouldn't take - I'll figure out the issue this w/end.

Cheers mate - maybe that's the case. If not, I'll figure out what's actually going on this weekend. Cheers Chris's info that the wastegates aren't stockies (and thanks for the pics mate! :zlove: ) .

I'll bug someone with Conzult, or borrow my brother's ECUtalk, to have a bit of a drive with and hopefully see what's going on. I'm going to run down to the drags tonight and see what she runs with the current setup. I haven't had an opportunity to scan the dyno sheets yet - been working hard since yesterday afternoon unfortunately. Need to get out of the lab  but should be able to pop them up tonight. :)

All good Ross no need to be apologising haha.

Should be fine andy ;) .. :br:

kool keep us updated on what you firgure out. have u got any dyno sheets. i remember the prev owner ran a 12.8 with stock wheels and those mods but that was with the leader gears which it doesnt have anymore. good luck with the run tonight.

reason why im curious is your car has similiar mods that i have sitting here waiting to go on and i already have 230~. i would be very annoyed to see i have the same power with the better mods and turbos etc that go on... mine is an auto aswell. so id be very interested to hear what you find because it just doesnt sound right.

Well, very disappointing run at the drags. Car seems to bog down and lose power at ~4500 RPM in first and second gear. Added to this, I couldn't seem to get her to boost past 12-14 psi so I'm thinking there's a leak somewhere. Not good! :(

So, as such: Things to do list: Figure out where the power loss is coming from, and figure out why I'm lacking boost.

Yesterday's dyno sheets are attached :).

post your et and trap speeds, will tell a lot
why don't you hurry up and do a boost leak test? takes next to no time

im not surprised it feels like it has no power after 4500rpm , that dyno chart shows exactly that..........power comes on extremely hard and fast until 4500 rpm, then the car makes minimal additional power for the rest of the rev range..........boost also slowly trails off which is a sign of lazy wastegates........

  19. Altari

    Altari '89 2+2 TT Manual

Yeah I'm not sure how linked the boost and 4500rpm issues are though. I'll have a check of all the connectors (VCT comes to mind hey Ross? :p) when I get time. been at work all morning, meant to be writing part of a draft research essay this afternoon :(.

I don't have a working compressor unfortunately, so I'm going to have to loan one on the w/end.
