Operation "Thumb out of A$$"

A lot of people know me pretty well....
A lot of people also know that I'm the king of unfinished projects....

I always say I'm too busy to finish all of these ideas of grandeur due to the large amount of work that I have on working on other Z?s.....

Well.... I?ve come to the conclusion that I?m full of $h1t!

So here starts operation thumb out of a$$!

I?ve got two Z?s, both missing engines, gearboxes, suspension components and various other parts I?ve used to fix other customer?s Z?s... Well it?s all about to change.

I own the original ZWEETT, she was blue and no one could fault her. Scottie, the original owner decided to hydro-lock the engine whilst cruising through a large puddle on the road one day. Since then, zweett has been off the road spending at least a few years sitting up on axle stands.

There were a few dings and dents over the body but Mr Brains here (aka me) decided to rub her back and repaint her to make zweett look like new again. We let?s just say there was some rubbing back but not a great deal of work thereafter.

Finally, after years of ?yeah im gunna do this? or ?this weekend I?ll...?. I?ve been pushed into finishing the car on what I call an express timeline. I thank my fiancé, our new house being finished in a couple of months and most of all; Andrew (aka minivan).

So, enough about the history behind the story, let?s get right into the action:

    • Step 1: Paint the engine bay and get it ready for an engine.
    • Step 2: Assemble an engine that will be worthy. Nothing over the top, just something that will allow years of zedding fun.
    • Step 3: Install the engine, buy a gearbox and get the car running.
    • Step 4: Drive car to undisclosed location for painting.
    • Step 5: Buy thousands of dollars worth of trim to get the car looking like new and reinstall the interior.
    • Step 6: License the car
So my express timeline.... approximately 4 ? 6 weeks. :)
I?d ask everyone to do me a huge favour..... Make sure I stay on track! PM me daily, post on this thread daily, if you?re in my shop, ask me what I?ve done today on the car... call me, harass me... do whatever it takes to keep me focussed. I?m sure I?ll be pulling a few all nighters at the workshop over the next week. Hooray for me.

    STEP 1 - COMPLETED

OK, so thanks to Andrew for dedicating all day yesterday to my a$$ project.

I originally wanted to keep the car blue, a few years back I went out and spent around $900 on 2pac silver then a blue candy over the top.... I scrapped that when I fell in love with the new 370Z colour "TITANIUM"!!!

Yesterday, Andrew came around, got into sanding and prepping the engine bay from my semi-failed attempt at priming (The tip I used in my spray gun was too fine for a high build primer).

The end result was damn SEXY... I love this colour and can't wait to see the whole car painted in it!

    To get

it right you have to start from scratch, like you have. But 4-6 weeks, is not enough time for a ground up job imo. Love that colour!:zlove:

You got the engine in yet? Come on, you can't let the paint chip from old age before the engine goes in...

I've had all of the interior retrimmed, so will be putting that all back in. As for the outter trims, going to order bulk stuff after it's painted. I'm happy to do a bulk order if you're interested?

VQ project is in full swing, stop bagging me out! :)

We're getting the gbox adaptor plate finished off and hope to have it in our hands next week. VQ is my business project, this Zed is my personal one... :)
    Yes sir!

Managed to get the main harness re-wrapped and back in the car today... Also did some bolts ons like headlights, etc. I'm trying to work out what I do and don't have of the A/C system.... tis fun!
