Try Shannons for comprehensive, will be expensive according to your age, but they will insure the car.

    Hi there:)

I tried Shannons, but they wouldn't insure me cos I am under 25.:( (young people cant be enthusiasts it would seem...just hoons:mad: ) Not many other places would insure me either, and most wouldn't even let me do it in my parents name with me listed as a 2nd driver! I know Just Insurance does it for younger drvers and on imports, but I think its over 2g a year even for comprehensive on an NA:eek: Considering the age restrictions, I couldn't justify it, I worked out that even if the car was stolen/destroyed once every few years it would cost about the same to buy another one each time as it would to have it insured .

The S15 is nice and all, I thought I wanted one before I recently got a zed , but now I would never trade the zed for a 200/silvia or anything for that matter!!!(except maybe a tt zed;) ) IMHO dont get a car for anyone but yourself, unless they are going to be driving it regularly too. In the end if your the one who has to drive it, you should get whats right for you:)

is car in your name or other family members???

when you got the car did you transfer ownership or is it still in the old mans name or something? because you can get much better prices if your the secondary driver (assuming owner is over 25, rating 1, etc.)

& have you tried going through a brokerage? My policy is through OAMPS (brokers) & underwritten by CGU. mines an aussie spec so they might not touch imports but cant hurt to try! registered in dads name, im nominated secondary driver on policy & my rating still improves every year i dont have an 'at fault' accident.

& shannons do insure under 25's, my mate insured his minitruck yesterday. he's 22 & based purely on photos so far policy is for $23k agreed value.

    cheers, tim.

i wish they would get their bloody stories straight

i got a full comprehensive agreed value on my old 180sx for 25K agreed value, that was written off and they said they wouldnt insure me for the Z, i mean WTF, they are both imports and both turbos and both heavily modified WTF!!!

is anyone else under 25 insured for agreed value with shannons for their import turbo?

Yeah, insurance companies are full of @#^$@*(&!!!! When I was calling around, I finally got a good quote for full comp, and went to cancel my 3rd party from RAC. They asked me why I am cancelling, I told them that I had finally found a good quote and then they said that they would match the other companies quote, where as 15mins earlier the same person at RAC had refused to insure for over $9,000.00, and wanted me to pay $2,200 a year + $800 excess!!!!!

As you can guess, I told her to be upfront in the first place, and that she could go & get intimate with a horse. Dont lie to your customers and then change stories coz you want to keep their business.

yeah thats what im talking about

i mean WTF!!! my policy with just cars runs out in march, so ill go hunting for good insurance.. i wouldnt mind having some peoples policy numbers to go to them " look, you insured my mate, who is same age, same sex with same kind of car for full comp agreed value, so do it for me"

arg insurance blows... i wonder what just cars will say when i call to cancel my acount with them (they would only insure my Z for 8k, i wanted agreed vaule of 18k).

although, just cars did pay me out very promptly after my last car was written off, so they do pay out..

TordeK is insured with them as well. he's got similar as to you.

This may sound like a stupid questions, but is Shannon's in WA? I've just never heard of them here... Nearly everyone i know with an import here in perth is with just cars...

shannons wouldnt insure me and im 22

they said they dont do ppl under 25 , so do they just randomly choose when to do this or what , and just cars said i could have all the mods i wanted but they'd only insure it for 11k but then after talking to them longer they said they wouldnt give me any insurance, so whats with that ,i hardly drive the thing it just sits in the garage ( stays much cleaner that way:D

    just car wanted

2.1k for my TT when I got it at 21 so I did the cheap and did 3rd party for a year when it came time to do the policy again I had since added a lot of stereo, rims, widebody and listed off the mods from origanally trying to get it insured stockand they did it for $1400 for 17k.

So try that if your out of luck, get it covered with them then upgrade

  15. Eastern Eye

Eastern Eye !!! MOST WANTED !!!

my insurance is due for reenewal soon, i was with just cars only with third party fire & theft, so i decided to give shannons a ring, they said that i needed to be an ethusist before they could insure me, they asked if i had more then one car etc etc. but with just cars, my comprehensive is 2k, with minor mods, no engine mods, and insured for market value, i asked em how much more was for agreed, and that was $2100, for up to 12,500, which really wasnt the agreed value i was looking at. excess was 600 for being under 25 and another 600 for some other thing. but this year i can get fire and theft with property insurance for 500 buks

Hi there, I use lumleys to insure my z and corvette, give them a go. Thanks Andrew..

  17. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

What I've found with Insurance companies is

that it it doesn't matter which one you're with, be it Shannons, Just Cars, Lumleys, RACV, AAMI, GIO whatever, they are fine, and will take your money (up to $2,500 per year), UNTIL you make a claim! Then they will find some reason not to pay out, especially if you have an import.
It's easier if you are older, and own several cars (but that doesn't help you). It's easier if you own an Aussie-delivered Zed as opposed to an import (but that doesn't help you either)
All you can do is shop around for a price/quote, and hope you never have to make a claim. Be "up-front" with them re ALL your mods (air-filter, engine, exhaust, wheels, tyres, suspension, body-kit, even your stereo, etc.,) Once it's on paper, it's harder for them to argue their way out, but still not impossible.
They're ALL a pack of bastards, in the business of taking your money, not paying it out!

Their in VIC. But they insure nationally. Although mine is NA you should them. I pay $800 full comp. I'm 23 and they have no limit on mods, it's insured for 13.5k and they don't charge extra for mods.
