So its been like a century since ive been on this forum,
so id like to catch up in a 5 sec rundown,

for those who dont know, i spent 5 years building a 300zx that i never got around to using and used to be quite an active member of this forum
    mods here
    http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310296

After the car sitting around for along time never getting used making 480 something HP as i owned a 370z which was far nicer to drive, out of the blue i decided to finish the zed, wound up the boost and cleared 510HP at the wheels back in January 11, and put her on the market

i was building a vq powered track zed which has since been sent to the skip as i couldnt bare the thought of throwing 10s of thousands of $ and 5 years of work into the wall at barbagallo. i even bought my bros fd/fc rx7 to finish it and use it as a track car which also never eventuated.. i did finish the rx7 though and it too sat around for 18 months with no use

a few months ago the person who bought the car sold it back to me, and i sold my bro his old rx7 back, the zeds engines now done 20,000 ks, the paintwork has stone chips and some poorly executed panel repairs (small carpark bingle badly fixed by so called 'custom' workshop) rims were kerbed so now shes going racing

signed up for my first event which happened to be Antilag's Race Wars on the day i picked her up.. changed the clutch as it had a streetable 9 puck cushion button, changed it to a 5 puck HD

Tom @ PZP helped me pull the motor and swap out the turbo manifolds to AMS (i was running UAS ported and extrude honed as the MS manis hadnt been invented back when i bult the motor)

wound down the boost and pulled some timing out of her to make it more reliable on the track.. torque figures are up from 560 to 600NM @ 5000 rpm now, boost comes on alot earlier (around 600-1200 rpmalong the graph) and power is back down to 480HP @ the wheels

changed the wheels to a set of 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 gram lights sporting Advan A050s
(drag radials werent allowed at racewars as they arent speed rated and mickey thompson said they arent designed to do more than 400m so dont use them as they could have issues)

not a lot to report from racewars other than the zed was running beautifully all weekend, beat alot of cars on the rolling 400s and 800s, lost to some absolute weapons like the audi rs6, no times to post as their timing gear was being really unreliable and failed to catch the zed.

i didnt really buy the car to go drag racing, itll be a circuit car, but i couldnt pass up the chance to go to racewars

next mod is evo IX brake upgrade

yeah mate, had a few boost leaks when i picked her up and the previous owner went back to single intake to make her a bit more streetable, he was using her as his daily, so she was a fair bit down on power,

so i pulled the motor, new turbo manifolds, new clutch, no boost leaks, lowered the front end again (was up high enough to make speed bumps) pulled the baffles out of the cannons, reinstalled the dual intake kit again and shes golden.

motor is going strong, weve pulled some timing out of the top end to keep her reliable at constant high revs that itll be copping being soley used as a track car

the biggest mod this car now needs is a competent driver, and thats the main focus over the next 12 months.. im a complete newb when it comes to real track time

shell be getting bigger brakes, a full cage and maybe e85 all in the aid of reliability, longevity and safety

oh and shes going on a big diet

you best believe.. it was too good to refuse, i actually sold it to a friend of mine a couple of years ago, and a couple of months ago he was selling it to fund his epic project (details to follow later). he only had it on the market for 1 week before he was considering taking some dudes low ball offer.. i said if your gunna sell it to him for that ill bloody well buy it.. and i did, called my bro and sold him his black rx7 back and here we are

gunna try and club rego it so i can drive it to and from events/workshops

once fully prepped, full cage, loud and low etc will get yellowed very quickly

thats what i was thinking. itll be fully sik sticker spec bro lol.

mind you, it wouldnt be driven very often, so you could get away with it for years if lucky......

    first track day

first day out at barbagallo.. first time ive ever been circuit racing, first time round barbagallo outside a gokart

was awesome fun, i sucked but steadily improved over the night.. it was a night event over the short circuit

    times here http://racing.natsoft.com.au/635658698/object_22568400.89Z/Result?1

started with 1:12.. finished with a 1.01.5 which i was pretty happy with.. the car has way more left in it.. the driver needs ALOT of modifications haha

the car handled like a dream all night and I havent come close to finding any of her limits into, out of or during corners... for some reason i was short shifting the first half of the night.. i think i just must have been too excited

i put her on the weighbridge while i was up there for a total of 1631kg
    [IMG]
with weight split being 853kg to the front and 778kg to the rear

this weight is with all fluids, a full tank of 98RON, me sitting in the front seat at 77kgs and the spare wheel and factory toolkit in the boot, all carpets, floorboards and sound ending
I do have lightweight racing seats on manual rails

so the first job is weight loss and safety and not alot more than that till after ive had alot more time behind the wheel

I've managed to sell all of my suede interior, so i stripped it all and while i was at it, all of the AC/ heater etc. this weekend ill dry ice the rest of the sound ending

and my CAMS approved cage has arrived from Bond roll cages in the east

im wondering if everything i have pulled out will outweigh the extra weight the rollcage is putting back in
