lastnight i was driving near clayton, about 60kmph, the road was wet form the rain, i cleared a corner but after the exit the car started to drift, so i tried to correct and then all hell broke lose. it first drifted to the right, when i corrected it went for more than 180 spin, I narrowly missed a lamp post, a tree, a parked car, a pedstrian an oncoming vehicle.. towards the end the car was going in reverse, over the curb and hit a wooden fence.. lucky it was wooden.. other wise i would have had a major crash.. on my rear bumper.. the neighbours came out .. i was extremely lucky to escape with just paint coming off my bumper what have i done wrong here ?.. my tyres are quite new what should i have done to break from the drift ? i had two passenger in the car both on the left side
Had your suspension checked lately? Could be the cause.... But are you sure you didn't get on the gas while going around the corner? It certainly isn't hard to break traction in the wet in a 300zx
How did you try to correct? only with the wheel? You need to tap the accelerator to try to regain forward traction.
Or did you tap the brake pedal? It's a natural reaction if inexperienced so no need to feel bad about, just learn from it. Been there too... I was 16 then
Depends on how he was doing 60. If he was in first and accelerating like nothing (not saying he was) then tires won't save you from drifting. I imagine that he started to drift, stopped accelerating and tried to counter steer. If he had of tapped the accelerator at the same time he might have pulled it off
damn sorry to hear, that would have been scary as...... as long as your all good and the car was ridden off...well the not being ridden off part is that main part
yeah i think i will have to check the suspension, because it went over the curb aswell ... .. i was in 4th gear .. and i stopped accelarating the moment it started drifting.
it is very possible that i hit the brake .. but i was concentrating more on the steering.. i tried to correct it by steering normally to the opposite side
not much you could have done dude. its a zed and it will slide. ive had this happen to me less than a month ago on a cruise we had. i was going around an s bend and all was fine, soon as i exit from it, it just slid out beyond control. it was wet but i didnt even see the wet, soon as we hit another suburb the ground was wet. tried to control it but no chance and was just sliding backwards in hope to stop in time before the gutter. it did, just... thing is i didnt even push it etc i wasnt going fast around the s bend. worst thing you could do when you loose control though is step on the BREAKS. if you did this in pannic then it is probably why you lost control. i think we need to organise a skid pan day. im sure others have said they walked out alot more comfortable driving in the wet etc knowing they could atleast master it a little. im hanging to go to one
well if vbevan is going to tap the accelerator,in the wet, while in a spin,im dont want to be a pedestrian near him, tapping the accelerator while in a wet spin, will do absolutely nothing
In a drift or in a spin? He said he started with a drift. To correct, you need to regain forward momentum and you get the most friction by tapping the accelerator. Once the tyres start spinning you lose friction. You gain the most just before the point when they start to spin (similar concept to anti-lock brakes). Plus by tapping, you give them a short chance to dry up and hopefully find a non-wet spot of road instead of maintaining a wet surface as they spin. If the cars spinning properly, there isn't a whole lot you can do to recover (I mean if your moving down the road doing 360's with no control). Just hold on.
i dint panic initially, but i had no clue what to do. probably the reason why i dint panic was coz i have had a small drifts before but the zed always behaved and put me back on track ... but this time it was more than that .. so next time it starts drifitng .. correct me if am worng -- DONT press brakes -- Accelarate a bit to regain control am not sure but would pressing the clutch help atall or does it make it worse ?
Firstly, I'm glad you and your passengers were not hurt. Secondly, "about 60kph in 4th gear", is definitely NOT the way to exit a corner in the wet. 4th is way too high a gear to have proper car control coming out of a corner, wet or dry. 2nd or 3rd gear would have allowed you more flexibility and throttle control. I suggest you book yourself into an Advanced Driving Course as soon as possible, so as to gain some very valuable experience in car control in a safe environment. It will be the best money you ever spent(and your Zed will thank you also). Good Luck mate Lloyd:zlove::zlove:
Skidpan day... now there's a good idea. On another note, what ever happened to that dyno day for us melbournians I don't remember who was organising it. Sorry little off topic
So did I... I went through a fence too, mine was dog mesh, not wooden. No structual damage just paint... Definately go for the kid pan, you learn a lot and it's great fun
