Good to see you have stepped from the mirror long enough to get some work done. Motor is looking great. Good to see you are paying attention to detail. You might just beat Alan and I in getting the motor rebuild done.
yeah i know i only started researching the GTX turbos in the last 2 weeks.. but ill stick with my 28RS .. im sure they'll still pack plenty of punch.. who says i cant upgrade them later on in a year when i get used to the 28RS ?
well on the way to 400+rwkw.. customTT got 375 from memory with mild porter heads------I have extensively ported heads Stock manual cams----R400+ JWT cams new stock valves------1mm oversize valves 2530 HKS turbos------GT2860 (very similar i believe) stock fuel pump-------400L/H fuel pump Stock rails 750cc------twin in and out 750cc so this will be interesting...
What pressure are you planning with the T28's. Alan is setting his at 12psi, and before we blew the big end bearing it was an animal.
T28 ? im running the slightly bigger brother to these .. 2860RS and im running a low of 16-17psi and a high of 24-26.
Hey Rob Is anyone doing these as a kit for the zed? What's the advantage of the new GTX series of turbos over the existing Garrett GT line?
And no no one is doing a gtx kit yet or I would have jumped on it As mentioned though engine mounts need adapting and intake Tract needs altering
JWT is bringing out the first kits. not sure how they are going to modify the intakes to be a bolt up but the new compressor wheels are designed to use anti surge housings. My guess is they will machine the 3" inlets adding a reducer for the 2 bolt intakes while still keeping the antisurge housing. GTX are designed to run higher efficiency at higher boost while still spooling the same. up to 4000rpm they will be the better ,same ,similar depending which one (60,63,67) then they will out shine the RS . in a nutshell gt2871 power with RS spooling. WIN/WIN All garrett needs to do now is bridge the gap between the t28 and the T3 turbine wheel. so yes I will be upgrading to these at a later stage
nope .. I won't be buying the kit . you can buy the turbos off the shelf for $1250 each without exhaust housing and replace with your existing actuators ,brackets and RS exhaust housing etc . if you dont already have the the GT28RS then it makes sense to buy the kit... OR if you want to sell your existing kit and replace ..up to you. I have a proper 3" intake system so makes no sense to go JWT .
You have a 3" intake system that's huge ! I mean I'm sure it's effective but that's a big increase over stock
you think garrett make the compressor housings 3" for a reason ?.. kits modify them to make them fit to specific cars ...stock intake is designed for our pissy little turbos here you go ..reduced 2 bolt intake I don't like JWT kits as they also still use the 3 bolt outlet . http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/news.asp
Was it a PITA doing 3" intake ? Maybe a project to complete . And sO your saying our stock intake is inadequate for gt28rs turbos to breathe properly ?
when a turbo starts spooling it will suck like a hooker waiting for her next crack hit . but the more air available to compress the less it has to scavenge for air so spool will be better .. less restriction everywhere is always of benefit . why is ashspec and the copycats making 2.5 intake pipes now for our cars ? (testing done) 3" wasn't that hard .. to side mount location in my build thread
So your not saying that stock intake piping will hurt a gt28rs set up but you are saying spool and response is improved from a larger "unrestricted" air intake
