Iv searched very hard and looked for the tech article but cant find anything on this. The bolts that hold the throttle bodies on (they appear to be hex). Iv used a bigger clamp on my small tool to get more leverage and i ended up stripping the inside of the bolt. I WD40'd them too and they are very firmly on there. Any tips/tricks or something i havnt tried yet that anyone can point out? Matt. EDIT! Just found out they are not hex's. vote me for biggest idiot.
What do you mean they aren't Hex? They area 6mm allen key bolt. They are installed from factory with thread locker.
I think they come with copious amounts of blue thread lock from factory, mine did (may of been done latter), wished I had left them where they were.
Surprised there are issues with these? The TQ specs are very low from memory (had mine in and out to install return spring covers) -like 12lb/ft or something?
Oh yes...they are definitely installed with thread locker... I recall Craig having a blast of a time cracking each bolt not once...but a good 5 odd times, completely screwed afterwards ...even if I was mechanically minded there is no way I'd be able to undo half the bolts/screws on the zed
Its actually 9 not 8. And the ninth has some metal in it stopping me from getting the allen key in there, whats the go with that?
If it's totally rounded, stripped and un-reusable anyway, I suggest getting a high tensile bolt welded onto that b*stard bolt. Then using a 6-sided socket, unbolt the b*tch! Worked a treat for me... Arvin :zlove:
What in tarnation do you mean good sir?! It's 8. 4 allen key bolts on each throttle (use an in-hex drive for these), and 3 regular bolts which hold the middle throttle cable cams to the middle of the plenum.
I just used a cheap allen key and put a nice long bar over the end for leverage. Mine was covered in red locktite.
I should also add that when you re-tighten them, you should be doing it in a cross-shape, and in stages so that the throttles do not warp:
