Hey guys! I'm new to this site, so haven't really introduced myself,

    Hi I'm Chris and I drive a 300zx :p

I purchased it for $1200, It's a red NA targa top ^_^ Australian compliance, not imported, so came with factory cream leather seats, apparently they're rare so I'm quite happy :D.

Anyways.. down to the nitty gritty stuff..

ofc buying a car for $1200 your gonna have problems, and there a biggen!

first things first, I gotta crank the car, a lot to get it working.. cold days are the worst, like 20 minutes of tryna start it, whilst pressing the acceleration completely, once starts though is fine.

There's lots of other problems, that I've managed to get under control, but the one to start it up is puzzling me. I checked the spark plugs and there completely black, like very rich, meaning too much petrol is going into them, not enough air.. so I was thinking this had to do with something like the auxiliary air uni not working? cause I was thining not enough air is going into them.

But hey that's just me, how about you guys? any thoughts?

Change starter motor, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter and spark plugs.

    Problems solved.

I thought there would be more symptoms if the coolant temp sensor was faulty?

Try get a fault check. Get someone with an ecutalk out consult to take a look. Where in Victoria are you?

    I don't think..

the Zed ever came with cream leather seats, not in Australia anyway. You totally sure it's not an aftermarket job?

But hey, I could be wrong...

The zed did actually come with factory leather seats, it's not an aftermarket job, it was the one imported from nissan itself, and sold from australia, so a non import, look it up, i'm pretty sure I'm right. It's a rare model to find, came across it lucky enough, but got all these problems with it.

I live right next to the city, I'll change the stuff you guys mentioned above and I'll get back to you on if that works.

    Yes....

The Zed did come with leather seats, but as far as I know, the leather seats only ever came in a dark grey / black color. Not a cream or tan color. That's why I asked if it was an aftermarket job. Either way, it doesn't matter, as long as the seats are in good nic, it's all good :).

Ah ok gotcha, yeah I was looking around and all I could see was black leather seats, not cream coloured although I have seen 2-3 more cars like myne same colour with the exact same leather seats, a bit weird, ah well. Yeah there in alright condition, for 337,000 on the clock they're not too bad.

    No.
Australian delivered cars never came with leather or electric seats from factory. They are either retrims or have been fitted from an import. Jap spec cars had optional leather seats, and only convertibles had the option of a creamy white interior with matching leather seats (though this is very rare). Post up pics, that will show if they're original or not.

    z32..

will upload pics as soon as i get my cam back lol. do I do it to this thread? or is there an actual thread for it?

I'm also having problems with temperature... car heats up quite fast, even though the radiator is brand new, got that replaced, I'm guessing has to do with the thermostat, because after some mucking around with the radiator, and putting water in and out etc etc, stops over heating.

I also have the same problem as the OP with starting my car. Could someone please shed some more light on to why this is happening. My car does not read any error codes and both my temp sensors are brand new. Any advice would be welcomed. :br:

It's hard when no error codes are being shown. when buying a car like this with that many k's on it, or for that matter the incorrect owner, there will be lots of little jobs all over the car. There won't be a straight exact answer here.
Check all your plugs, especially your injector plugs, there bound to be corroded.
Check all your coil packs, are they packing the punch we need?
    Check your spark plugs
Check your ptu, get a series 2.
    Do a big service!
The list goes on and on, but I would start with that.

I hope it's a project car for that price and you plan to spend a shit load lmao
And a for a side note they aren't that rare dude, I have an aus spec too along with a lot of others on this forum. It's the well kept ones that a rare :p

hey mynes in pretty good condition :p, just some.... mechanical problems... lol.

ofc its a project car, do you think I'd drive this to uni tryna start it for 20 minutes... with that annoying sound? -.- no way, even for a zed I'd be embarassed :p. Already spent 1500, thats with brand new wheels(japanesssseeee chyeaa :p) radiator, thermo, platinum spark plugs( hate how it has these.. so expensive) and some other minor things. Last problem on road worthy.. well not really for rwc.. just to get it running properly lol.

then again you can't say every properly maintained zed doesn't require money here and there? they all add up in the end, sucks but it's a price to pay when driving one of the most sexiest cars ever made ;p

    Hey Chris,
Great meeting you yesterday. Good to see another 300k Zed owner.

As everyones suggested do a major service (Replace timing belt, replace fuel lines, pull the plenum, get injectors flowed, deletes done.) If you need any coil packs I got a set of 6 stock ones here giving great spark with clean connectors.

    James.

Give your Engine a Compression check, I would with that many K's on the clock!

Yeah thing is this car has been passed on from owner to owner to owner, and none of them can actually fix the problem its having when starting up, It's been through about 5 owners who have not registered it, and i'm the 6th.. now I don't know how many it's been before them, but only managed to track down the 5 people, for 337,000km's on it, it's a bit puzzling who drove it this much, unless original owner did.

Yep, compression check is the next thing I'm going to get done :).

Hey James, same here. Already replaced the timing belt, was about to break to, lucky.
At the moment don't need any, but will keep you in mind, thanks. Just gotta get a few other things sorted out, before I get anything else. Thanks though.

Just wondering if the hard-to-start issue could be the Air Mass sensor. Any experts want to comment? I know mine was real hard if not impossible to start one time and that was the cause then.
