Closest I know of to a legal one is a 2000 spec car that someone has imported and are in teh process of moving everything over to a '94 chassis.

so its not possible to own it for 12 months in japan and import it that way? Or is there still compliance issues?

Sorry, yes this is still possible. That's the only way though.

Spencer that used to own nissport here in melb had at least one. Not sure what happened to it after business went under though

    because DOTARS:
-don't want all the junky/accident damaged cars from overseas coming in
-don't want people bringing in cars from overseas that were already sold here in full volume
-don't want dodgy importers bringing dodgy cars to sell to unsuspecting people
-don't want people bringing in highly modified cars for road use
    etc

a lot of the '89 and '90 model zeds here were brought in under the 15yr old import rule. That rule was changed in 2005 to the pre-89 rule, keeping it running as the 15yr old rule would have allowed a lot of the other nice '90's cars to start coming in (but a lot of junk cars would have ended up over here too). The import scheme now is call SEVS and the restrictions are much tighter (eg can't import NA 2+2 from '89 to 96 as it was sold here in full volume by Nissan AU) and the cars need to be of a higher standard (no accident damage and mods as far as I know).

    Well no, you can.

The z32 is on the SEVS Register for 1996 to current. Here

And there is a RAWS workshop who has done the paperwork to comply them. Here

So there's no legal reason why not...previously there hasn't been a RAWS workshop that has done the paperwork to comply the 96+ Z32, but now there is...happy days.

Thanks for that AndyMac - and they're in QLD too! :)

Seems we all owe a debt to High Performance Imports Magazine No.12............

SEVS is a process for determining vehicle make/model eligibility only.

This SEVS Entry issued by the Administrator does not constitute automatic approval for importation of nor infers ADR compliance for supply of the vehicle to the Australian market.

I was under the impression that the lack of dual airbags in the later model Z32's meant non compliance of ADR, so while the car is eligible for application it does not meet ADR regs and as such can only be imported under personal import regs as stated earlier. (although it may be that this only applies to 98 and newer)

but if they didnt sell a 200 model over here in full volume, shouldnt it be fair go to import?

I think the lack of a passenger airbag causes issues or something

I did a lot of checking-up on all this last year. SEVS doesn't allow any vehicle built after December 1997 to be imported for compliance & registration - unless it has dual airbags.
Perhaps a few people managed to do so before SEVS came along & perhaps you still could do it as a 'personal import'.

I've been over the moon with mine!
