30min later, i was home, and i didnt get any hot air in my car ....
(i even pressed the button high speed fan, but still no hot air)

does anybody know why?

lol regas the heater? sorry Murry but that's classic.... The heater gets it's 'heat' from the engine coolant. There are two pipes that go from the engine, pass through the firewall and into a small radiator type part called a heater core.

It's common for these to give in after a long life and they end up leaking inside the cabin of the car (coolant in the footwells) so for a cheap fix, many zedders decide to bypass it.

Check out this link in the tech section for more details on heater core bypassing: http://tech.aus300zx.com/heater/heatercore.htm

mine doesnt have heat or cold....its basicly just a fan....no heat if im cold and no cold if im hot....could no cold have anything to do with a bypass or does it need re-gasing?

    Could be this...

Could be your radiator thermostat is old and stuck open. This is common - and basically keeps your engine running cooler than it should and not letting the radiator water get hot enough to heat up the heater core. (you could probably test this by checking your engine temperature gets to ~80+ degrees.

Or it could be a problem with your climate control sensors, I'm sure there's somethiing in Tech section on checking over this.

As for regassing, well if everything is working fine, your heater will still work even if your a/c gas isn't. You just won't get cold air.

    Thats a start anyway. :zlove:

    you probably have

    both cases!

might need re-gassing, plus check for heater core bypass previously done. (can tell by the 2 water hoses near firewall being looped instead of connecting to the heater core nozzles pertruding through firewall.

You didn't mention how long the drive home from uni was. It'll take me about 5-10 mins of regular driving before my climate control deems the coolant hot enough to heat the cabin, particulary on these icy cold Melbourne nights.

As for the regassing comments, ignore them. The air conditioner requires refrigerant gas to function, the heater uses the engine's coolant.

    hahaha...I was thinking..re-gas "isn't that air-con related"..lol..that is a classic..
First thing that came to my head from this Thread was, its either been bypassed or its leaking and you dont know it yet :(

wooooo so many replies in 1H

well the funny thing is that i brought my car to the garage last friday to change my water pump, and they told me ive had to change my thermostat as well cause it wasnt good anymore, so he changed it, but yeah ... looks like its not working correctly.

in fact the air that comes into my car is not cold, but not hot.
i mean its the same temperature as inside the car.

    weird weird.

could it be possible that the thermostat is not plugged correctly???
if so, is it possible to reach it easily?

Yeah..its a learning experience :)..funny I heard one of my friends saying how the car gets its heat from the engine heat:confused:...I was like.."ahh no, its the coolant that circulates through your heating system that heats your car"

In reply to your answer ISR2, my guess is that the new thermostat is a dud..and in regards to reaching it..Im sure its a bitch to get to with removing the front coolant pipes? Someone correct me if im wrong

im guessing my heater also has been previously bypassed. No heat at all. Might consider doing it sometime.

nah i think he may have the same problem i do, my dash was removed so we could completely remove the aircon and ever since it all went back together, 1. i have no heater even after 3 hours of driving and 2. my wipers decide to come on when they want and go off when they want, after tracing back all the wiring i found that a faulty wiper switch in the left pod was to blame but still no luck on the heater. my thermostat is good and new, the pipes are not looped back and have been replaced, the heater core was mint (checked when dash came out). So either i have forgot to plug something back in or my climate control unit is stuffed.

this is correct, air con system needs to be gassed to get nice cold air...its the gas that makes the air get real cold....has nothing to do with hot air...

Even if your thermostat does not close and the engine runs a bit cool, it certainly would be warm enough to give you a bit of hot air.

As mentioned, radiator bypassed or the heater controls don't work, ie control on the pod, little black box or the heater valve does not open.

Easiest solution is to wear a jumper on hose freezing days and leave the targas on.

You might want to check if the air con works though. If not control unit (?)
