Hi all On igntion my car used to explode into life but now it sort of only just makes it, if you know what I mean. Anyone know what this could be? Cylinder compression is ok. New S2 PTU. New fuel filter, and regulator. Spark plugs less than 12mths old. New O2 sensors. IAA valve is dodgy, wasn't working a while back so I adjusted the screw big time to get idle revs down engine hunts idle sometimes also got a leaking hose from ps reservoir that I need to replace this happened before and fried the alternator, swapped it out with a 2nd hand one could it be alternator? I'm thinking those things either work or they don't right? cheers guys Nick
Can battery and alternator effect power/throttle response? What I mean is, do they have a performance gradient or do they just either work or not work? cheers
Check Check your alternator output with a multimeter, should be around 13.5 - 14 volts, if not then your power steering leak is killing your alternators. Get the leak fixed and try again
Sure If your alternator is being pathetic, then it cant provide the battery and the battery cant provide strong ignition. It can Work well, just work, sorta work, mildley work or not work.
A simple check for the alternator, especially at ilde and during winding over. And, like all have said it is a good starting point. but if you are not getting a good vapour of fuel from the injectors will also make it sluggish on start. Pull your plugs and have a look it could be they are fouling because of this and causing further issues.
Your idle valve appears dodgy and the engine is hunting because you have a vac leak somewhere. Adjusting the idle screw in has brought your idle down but also has limited the amount of air getting into the engine during start up. ECU start signal increases IACV % to allow more air flow during start up. Do a boost/vac leak test, fix the leaks and then readjust your idle as per tech section and you will fix your starting problem.
alternator could be dodgey again. you said you had a leaky ps hose. that could be leaking straight onto the alternator, as the pump does in our cars.
