catalyc converter overheat, not a huge issue ussually, probably loose wire or you are blowing flames out your exhaust

Not really.... it's telling you that your exhaust temps are "too hot". Could be a number of reasons including running too rich or shite cats as beaver suggested.

Hook up with someone who can do a conzult for you and go from there.

It can also be the result of dodgy coil pack connection

I was getting the cat converter light when one of my coil pack connectors was stuffed (was old and brittle, kept popping off), I suppose it meant unburnt fuel was getting ignited on the way out.

Might check the connectors as well as spark plugs.

did you get an aftermarket exhasut put on? or was it there already when yu bought the car? maybe previous owners knocked the cats out

Yeah, I had an aftermarket zorst - from the cats back.

I also had aftermarket dumps and front pipes.

But as for the problem being the coil pack connectors, I'm as sure as I can be that this was teh problem because once I replaced teh connectors the car started running properly (firing on all 6) and the light didn't come on again.

And it went back to proper fuel economy.

Well, proper for a TT'd six, but you know.

Could be a good place to start... go back through everything you touched and check the connections.

Climb under the car WHEN ITS COLD and have a look at the exhaust.

There are two probes that run from the floor pan in to the CATS via a plastic cable tray.

If these have been disconnected (by a cheap exhaust fitter) then it may cause the light to come on.

Discconecting these has also been known to cause fuel consumption issues.

Dorifticon nailed it. Loose coil pack connector, running a little rough, too much fuel, cat light on:cool:
