I should of had this already if i had my way with my old mechanic but not to my knowledge he whacked a nistune in there because it was easyer for him as i was auto back then. now that ive converted to manual i have more options i was pretty much sold on a haltech platinum sport 2000 back then but i think you really need to run with something your tuner is familiar with and recommends for the best result some thing i learnt when i had a microtech in my car first.
If a vi-pec does every thing a haltech can do + my tuners knows this ecu inside and out ill probably get a better result with vi-pec. he got one in his ttv8 converted skyline with no issues so far.

thanks anyways for your input on this subject you have a valid point though about plug in and play haltech being less hassle because it simply is just plug in and play.

    Edit:

    No worries mate.

You will sell your NISTune/socketed ECU no worries.

If your tuner is all over the Vi-Pec thats got to be better then throwing a Haltech at him.

I looked on the Vi-Pec dealer list for Queensland there was only 1 in Brisbane, so that made me spit at it a bit, but there seems to be more down your way.

I wouldnt hesitate to go with a Vipec. It is a VERY good ecu.
After throwing my AEM EMS in the trash (where it belongs) i actually bought a Haltech Sport 2000. Halfway through the install planing i realized it did not satisfy my needs for it, i suddenly wished i did more research before purchase.
The harness didnt even come with extra pins for other stuff that i might have wanted to hook up to it. ONLY pins needed to run it. Not a big deal (if you can find extra pins for it) but very annoying.
Then i went with a Link ecu and have never looked back.
I was initially going for a plug-in which is based on the Storm (or V44 in Vipec land) but i decided to go all in and got the G4 Xtreme (V88) wire in ecu instead. This cause i have lots of other things i knew i would want to hook up to the ecu, and the bigger ecu got more in`s and out`s to suit my needs.
I just made my own PnP harness so the cars own harness is still intact.
The ECU is also extremely configurable. If you for some reason wanted to span your fuel map over fuel temp vs exhaust backpressure you can. Not that you would but the software lets you do what you want. With EVERY map on it. A more serious and useful "map axis setup" you can do it set up a rev limiter based on oilpressure vs oiltemp. Get your head around that scenario and you`ll spot a real engine saver. Talking about safety, It got good knock control features. On the V44 you will need to buy an extra box to utilize its potential but its built in on the V88. You could also hook up a differential pressure sensor and have it look after fuelpressure vs manifold pressure and take measures if that relation got out of wack. (low fuelpressure).
In my case i also have my alarmsystem hooked up to the ecu. With an SMS i can remotly trigger a preset speed and rev limit. Like 50 kmh and 2000rpm. Or just stop the engine if i want that.
The software is also very good, intuitive and easy to use.
Well i could rave on but choose to stop now...

its just a few wires and one of the configurable outputs runs the vct there is no risk ,

haha my car still doesnt go , 90 % there im actually going to wire the adapter plug for the v88 loom to a nissan plug tonight . I know a couple of guys who are running them and they have never had a problem .

In the hands of the experienced it shouldn't be a problem, especially when it is known to run the R32/R33, very similar, but like the adaption of the APEXI POWER FC D Jetro FOR Z32 VG30DETT by UAS, there is some issues to address, some of which are out lined in this post, including this quote.

    http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271413

When the OP asked the question I took it as he was going to spec it and hand it to a tuner, a little different when the tuner suggests it and takes responsibility for the spec, although if he fries a couple of ECU's in the process, someone will have to pay for it.

I hope it goes well but if I were a betting man, I would bet on the manufacturers support before a workshop with good intentions.

Your doing an adapter harness and by process you sit down and work it out so when you plug it in everything will be lined up, so how do you do that with a direct plug in, do you depin and cross over the EFI harness or do you try and reconfigure the outputs and cross your fingers and plug it in, as mentioned before UAS who are pretty smart fellas fried "several" Jetro's in the process doing pretty much the same thing.

Wouldn't be that hard. Remember the Power FC's are designed around a particular car and motor, the Vipec/Haltec are designed to run any motor as long as you have enough inputs and outputs. You could run anything from a ride on lawn mower through to a V12 Lambo on one.

I wired in a GReddy Emanage Ultimate into my last zed and got that working no worries, and that was designed to be wired into pretty much any Jap performance car. You narrow it down to injectors and coils for each cylinder. Coolant temp, idle control, O2's, TPS, AFM/MAP and that's about it.

    It's not rocket surgery ;)

How do manage to not read my post, post a rebuttal but support my argument in the same breath ? :(

The full stand alone versions of Haltech/Link/Vi-Pec are designed to work on almost anything as you say, but replacement board/plug-in versions of the Haltech and the Vi-Pec ARE designed for specific setups like the Jetro, I must admit I find it hard to understand that its that hard that "several" Jetros are blown up in the process.

The "known issues" in Vi-Pec's own documentation gives some insight to potential issues, and searching finds more information as to the issues of using a Z32 ECU in an R32 etc.

I really hope it goes well and he comes back with a tasty dyno sheet and all smiles.

Simple MAF wiring changes, Z32 MAF translation map, TPS voltage issues, Firing order V Z32/R32 Loom V Vi-Pec output, second O2 Sensor, L & R bank, Duel MAP/Temp sensors ?, Dual VTC output, base fuel and timing maps, enrichment maps etc etc and then get that to line up on a preconfigured pin-out of an R32, its far from easy being the first IMHO, maybe not quiet rocket surgery but I see plenty of bridges to cross.

I just hope he has a fixed price.

The plug in vipecs are not really specific set ups like a jetro they are basicly a v44 with sequential injection for 6 cylinders and plug to suit , they are still completely adaptable like a v44 .
I was talking to mark at godzilla motor sports just then he said to get a gtr vipec installed on a z32 is just a couple of hours more labor to get the wires switched. So around $2000 plus tune.

    Vi-Pec

Hey guys, just for anyone interested I picked my car up from MRC yesterday after having a Vi-Pec ECU and Link Graphical Interface installed. I did about 100km yesterday including opening it right up on the FWY driving home and yeah very happy with the tune etc.

I'm running a less aggressive tune at the moment (going for longevity here!) but still making 420rwkw with the high boost set to 20psi. Delivery is a little smoother too.

The reason I went for the Vi-Pec was to have all of the auxilliary outputs (at the moment thermo fan and VTC) controlled via the ECU.

The Link display unit is a nice bit of kit too (although not cheap!), I'm still learning to use it but it can display a number of engine parameters on user preset screens. It also has a number of user programmable alarms that can be set as high or low priority. At the moment I have alarms set for coolant temp (two stage, low priority at 98 and high at 100 -keep in mind I am running Evans waterless coolant which sits around 5-8* hotter than water based coolant). The display unit has outputs so can be used to run a shift light etc as well. It also data logs.

So to the naysayers I am extremely happy!

Fixed price for the ECU was $1906 plus three hours install (including repairing wiring etc) and six hours on the dyno. The dyno time was expensive but that was a start from scractch tune and I'm happy to pay for it to be done properly.

Rob tell me your not gonna sell your car it would be a shame to get rid of her now after all the hard work. sounds like a good result for you thanks for the feedback it would be a big improvement for me coming from a nistune im sure.
Can't wait to get my motor sorted so i can go back to Marks to finalize my tune also.
Then a good Wollongong cruse throw national park would be nice.

Hey, yeah look I'll only sell for top $$. I don't want to sell but got some problems that the money could help with, but only if I get enough. At the moment nobody's expressed any interest at the right price so she stays for now :D

I'll be up for that Wollongong cruise! Motor is running perfectly for the first time ever but I've noticed some noise from the drivetrain -it never stops!!! I'm hoping it's just the heat shielding (that we made up for the c/f tailshaft) moving around on takeoff. Ah Zeds, gotta love it!

Probably not. Never had that much power under my foot before so I'll be playing it safe for a while, plus I think I'll still be running it in by then, lol.

    I know I know! "excuses excuses"... :p
