Hello everyone so I have decided to build a engine table and thanks to Sketchy he provided me a engine and has offered to help me out along the way which is mad!

Now some way find these images graphic and will have trouble sleeping tonight when they see a vg30dett getting turned into a table so please follow this build at your own mental risk, I am still studying to become a nurse so I cant help you yet!

Now if anyone has any ideas they wish the share to make this the most awesomest engine table in the world by all means share.

So first off we will start from the day we pushed the pallet off the back of the truck onto my concert drive way.

Please tell me you're not going to make the stands for the glass out of the pistons.
Iv seen it before and I think that looks tacky. A nice polished rod drilled into each corner of the block with a classy disk to place the glass would look sleek IMO.

Now make sure you degrease/clean the bejesus out of the donk. Then use maybe a nice satin finish on the block, a nice matte finish on the heads and then possibly a gloss or chrome finish on the plenum.

To get the flat table top, you'll need to either weld in some rods/battens or flatten out the plenum a bit in order to get the glass top on and secured into place, best too use at least a 10mm toughened glass ( so as not to break and slash people to death if it breaks ) .

Here's an image of a nice lambo one http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/i/non-rhodo/lambotable.jpg

I don't know if he will be re assembling the engine with cam covers and plenum before the glass goes on.

I was under the impression (from pics iv seen on the net) that the engines are left open with the glass on top.

I'd go the whole hog and do the engine with everything attached, but hey Andy's choice if he does go ahead hope it's a fun looking table.

Oh hey everyone! I didn't think id get so many replies haha well I was thinking half way I don't have a plenum at the moment Sketchy said he would have a look in his shed for more bits ect the other blow turbo and manifolds when he gets a spare moment. if I get my hands on one I will see about putting it on but the main focus was the turbos hanging off each side. Not sure on colour or what to add or how to do it but with all our minds combined... right into the Danger Zone! should be interesting so we all should throw ideas out and see what happens! I have been out there all day pulling it apart so I can start cleaning everything for painting.

good man that's the right way to go with holding the glass in place. are you sandblasting the block ?

Yep I would like to if I can convince some poor soul to do it for me haha.

Still wondering how to clean the heads and make them shiny and will they stay shiny or would I have to put a clear coat over the top?

Why don't you get block sand blasted, the heads Soda blasted and then get the heads dipped or ceramic coated

Heads will stay fairly clean but if you want them to stay shiny clear coat is the way to go

Did this for a customer a few years ago, came out great - even if we did use the pistons to sit the glass on.

I had planned to do the same thing with the spare engine and set it up similar to the above but with no heads and the bores lit from underneath and used as wine holders.

I came to the conclusion however that I couldn't be arsed so was happy for Andy to head down his own engine path and get the damn thing out of my yard :)

looks like the engine that was in my car when I first met the previous owner....... 18psi on stock turbos - stock injectors and stock tune. I have at least 1 piston melted like that in my garage and another that is melted but to a lesser degree.

Haha, thats even worse than I expected! I had a suspicion it had seized but never bothered to look any further into it.

Yesterday Sketchy and I hooked in and undone some more stubborn bolts so we have the rest of the bits to continue the project. Now I would like peoples opinions on how to position the turbos... not real sure how to present them.

Option 1 - swapped the manifolds and turned stuff upside down.

    Option 2 -

    Option 3

And here is a Pink Piston and that holds my pen.
