i have an n/a 300zx but im curious as to if a vacuum gauge will work at all on my car. i was reading the instructions on one and it says that you connect it to the intake. does anyone know if it will read anything at all?
hows vacuum created? im basically looking at getting water temp and vacuum gauge would the vacuum gauge help me with anything? or does it just read flat spotting?
In a NA car, when the inlet valve is open and the piston is descending, vacuum is created in the manifold as the cylinder sucks in the fuel/air mixture. A vacuum gauge will measure that. If you drive so that the vacuum gauge readings are kept in the lowest possible range, you will get the best fuel consumption from the engine. In the NA cars of the olden days , vacuum gauges were often fitted for just that reason, sometimes they were called economy gauges with sections marked in green, yellow and red.
Yep my old Skyline had a "Boost" gauge in the stock dash. It was a rotating barrel with a horizon to indicate vacuum, as opposed to the usual rotating needle ones you see now. Being an NA it would only be supplied vacuum but it would read "0" at idle or normal throtlle (no accel. or decel. while moving), go negative when engine braking and go positive depending on how much throttle you used.
ah k so basically the more throttle the higher the revs the more it goes to? so you could make it look like a boost gauge kinda thats sick ima get me 1........so to install it all i have to do is cut the vacuum like coming off the throttle body and t piece in the thing yer? then connect the lighting to the dash and the other wire to the ignition =] so exciting
you're not that fella selling the zed on ebay are you? The one that was listed as a twin turbo but was most definitely an NA? I emailed him and he had NO IDEA what sort it was
ok so this is the vac hose right? then all i have 2 do is cut that put a t piece in run the hose from the t piece onto the gauge and wire it in yer?
loll mate do that if you want your gauge to fill up with coolant mount your T pice of the balancer pipe which sits on the very top of the pleunm and near the brake booster on the drivers side there wil be some outlets wich you can t into
