My 300zx has is due for an EPA. i did not want to take out the intercooler, so i borrowed a stock air box from a friend. ofcourse it was very VERY hard to squeeze in! took a full day, me and my friends decided to take out what they thought was something to do with the air conditioner. which i now found out that it was actually the oil cooler!
so what happend is that they took out the oil cooler, and squeezed in the air box. the car has been sitting in my garage for about 3 weeks now. so today i had some time off and decided to work on it. i fit in the stock air box properly and secured it. i then moved on to turning on the car, the car started, stayed on for about 5 seconds and felt like it was losing power and about to turn off, so i pressed the accelerator a few times and it still turned off. i thought maybe because it hasnt been on in a while so i tried turning it on again and it wouldnt budge. i walked over to the front of the car and theres a massive oil leak.
    so now i ask:
    1) what has happened?
    2) have i blown anything?
    3) should i be worried?
    4) and what to do now

    1) the oil has drained from the car
    2) maybe, no oil in a engine is not a good thing
    3) hell yes
    4) reconnect the oil cooler, or loop the two hoses together so there is no more leak,
then refill with a quality oil and try and restart and hope like hell the engine isnt seized from running it dry. then when you realise the engine has seized, start looking to buy a second hand engine or save your pennys for a rebuild

and step 5, the most important....punch (ex) friends in face and tell them never to touch your car again, then while they are on the floor tuck the bill for the repairs into a pocket for them. PERFECT SOLUTION!

    Thank you for your reply!
just have a few more questions,
whats the possibility that i could have seized the motor for running it without oil if it was only on for about 5 seconds?
    and
shouldnt it have still started or attempted to turn on even when there was no oil?
    and last
if i join the 2 hoses together so there is no leak, and the car does start.. would it be safe to leave it like that? or is an oil cooler essential

depends on how much oil was still in the car, but the fact that you tryed to rev it with no/very little oil in it was a bad idea.....could easily have soun a bearing, which will show up as a knock IF it restarts for you. if it has siezed properly then it may not turn over at all, in which case you tow it to a mechanic.
oil cooler on a tt is necessary, sure you can run without one but nissan put it there for a reason, to keep oil temps down. i would only be driving the car without the oil cooler in a pretty dire situation, ie no other choice.
ps, thanks button is bottom right corner of screen, if you feel so inclined

Dont want to get your hopes up...

But there is over 4 litres of oil in the engine (im sure someone will have the exact figure) you had it going for a short amount of time, there doesnt appear to be too much oil on the floor (not 4 litres anyway)

Also from memory the oil tree doesnt work on temperature, it works on pressure so unless the oil pressure was high enough (it gets high due to heat ie expansion in a fixed space or when the engine/oil pump is working harder) then the tree wasnt letting oil into the cooler and what came out was residual.

Long story short, If i was placing bets I would say the engine will go again.

The fact you dont know the difference between the aircon system parts and engine oil cooling parts says you bit off more than you can chew and need to start down the food chain a little first. (sorry just my two cents)

PS if you every sell your zed, change the front bar, I hope it had that when you bought it and didnt buy/install later cause they are: :vomit:

You have lost maybe 1Ltr of oil, the engine would of had enough oil and oil pressure to do no damage at all.

I would say you haven't plugged the AFM in or one of the pins on the AFM connector has pushed back.

you could always try turning the the engine over with a socket on the crank shaft, before turning over on the key, but definatly connect the cooler or a bypass on the 2 pipes to and from it. and check the oil lvl before starting, that is not all the engine oil in that puddle, X3 on AFM plug as it wont rev over 2500 rpm.
