I run a 255 40 18 on the front. My wheels are 18 by 9.5 30 offset. And i have a little more room. As it stands i think i may be able to go 265 up front in the same brand tire. Im also running neg 2.5 on the front. I think there may be something wrong somewhere man. Id look into it. Just to clear something up 100% Just because a tire says its a 255 or 265 on the side wall does not mean that the tire is acually 255 or 265.
Speed sensor is on the gearbox, front tyre diameter won't make a difference. Rear tyres could, but we're talking fronts here.
It should NOT be possible for your wheel to move forward(or backward)unless you have seriously worn-out Bushings/Bearings. This is not only bad, it is seriously dangerous for you and other road-users. Have it checked by a professional(if you are unable to find the cause yourself).
I'm running Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 245/35R18 all around. Great tyres, and no rubbing issues on 18x9 +24 rims.
Did you end up resolving this issue? I'm also getting slight rub on the liner where the coolant overflow bottle sits as well, stock wheels and suspension components, remains garaged until I can get it to my mechanics to give the suspension a once over then an alignment, would be good to see what caused yours.
Turns out one of my shocks was slightly warn out causing a 10mm drop in ride height on that side ! I have put some stock shocks on at the moment and problem has gone away, probably didn't Help my tire size is slightly larger then the stock item .
You could try going to someone who knows what they are doing(relative to Wheel/Tyre fitment)....Hacking everything in sight IS NOT the way to setup your suspension!!! It's similar to the old "If you have a $10 Head, use a $10 Helmet" adage. You DON'T go to your local Butcher for a Heart Transplant Operation, do you?
Couldn't agree more. I have every faith in both my mechanic and also the place I will be taking it for an alignment, the vehicle in question is somehwat newly acquired project, had all the engine and electrical issues ironed out, once i have the suspension checked thoroughly and wheel alignment done, should be all systems go.
How's the alignment of the front bumper, headlights, nose panel and bonnet? All tight and square to each other?
bonnet has an issue - lower radiator support has been jacked previously, maybe its pulling the tension rod and wheel forward?
Yeah, mine has a bunch of different little bingles in the front end which makes clearance a problem. If it's the suspension bracket that's a problem it should show up as an incorrect castor angle in alignment, otherwise could just be bumper position holding the liner too close.
Just an update: wheel rub was from the coolant overflow and carbon canister pushed back from their intended positions and not secured correctly, once everything moved back into place no more wheel rub, no need to replace tension rods with adjustable etc. Bonnet just needed adjustment and the latch lowering slightly, not perfect but no longer noticeable, rad support doesn't appear to have been damaged, my assumption re that was wrong.
