Anyone know if you can change out the turbos on a 300zx without having to take the engine out? Can you get to them from under the car at all? Cheers
This has been covered many times as a quick search will reveal all your answers But to answer your question, YES it can and has been done, but it often takes longer to do than actually pulling the engine out due to how confined and fiddly it is, and also hacking up tools to reach bolts, etc.. Best options by far are to either drop the steering rack and lower the engine enough to access them - or pull the entire engine from the top and while it's out you can easily inspect and replace any hoses and other components if needed.
Search mate, all the info you need is on the web. The passenger side turbo can be removed with engine in place. Drivers side is another story.
Going to take the engine out in a few weeks time do the 100km service and run a seal kit through both turbos.
I took a set of turbos off while the engine was on a stand and the only question that kept going through my mind was, <How could anyone possibly get these off with the engine in the car?>. Apparently it can be done but it must be a right pita. Cheers, Evan.
Yeah a mechanic mate of mine looked at it and said nope engine out. It can be done in but alot easier with engine out plus i can change a few things that need doing when its on the stand. Not sayinh taking the engine out is easy or anything looks like alot of work.
Dont forget while the engines out dont forget to change your knock sensor. best to do with engine out already. Had mine out and thought I'd be ok but found out otherwise when engine was back in .
sometimes its easier to ask a straight forward question instead of trolling through dozens of pages of crap just to make a few people stop whinging... this is another simple case of - you dont like it, dont say anything
