im looking at buying a manual twin turbo 300zx, and as im not old enought to get insured for a turbo car, i was wondering if its possible To get a turbo car and Remove the turbo's and change the manafolds, and air intake from itercooler to a air pod, what else would it take and please list the details. i know its sounds stupid but its something im willing to consider. as i know turbo cars have (tuff)/ tougher internals and stuff. regards shaun
Yes, but it's crap and you end up with a slower Z than a normal NA one. Search, it's been done before.
Can be done but IMO, your better off just getting an NA and when it comes to nonturbo's you get a better diff and get to save all the money from the conversion on buying a better condition Z.
ecu, exhuast from cats forward to block, all intake piping. you will also need a hicas lock bar. definately not worth it
it's a stupid idea that's been asked many times. yes it can be done, but due to the costs and amount of work involved, seriously don't bother. also since you're doing it for insurance, even if you do take the turbos off you're still gonna have to tell them it was originally turbo and guess what, their decision won't change unless you show them a engineer's report that it's now an engineer approved NA. which costs $$$.
stuff it ill just keep it turbo and just register it in my old mans name and just drive it untill i get caught by the police..... then i can sell it. lol. hicas u say, i hate that crap its only good if your a crap driver, i say..... anyways ill remove it and lock the rear steering, hmm where do you go to get an engineering certificate/report? i have engineering mates. hmm ill look into it more. thanks for the info ppl much apreciated.
Mod plate's are cheap in QLD, $85 or so, the price is set by the government. You don't need to get rid of HICAS if you take the turbo's off, unless you put the NA diff in.
Just disconnect the wastegate actuators at the push rod/actuator link, that'll leave the gates open (they will just flap about), so hence no boost.
If the car is in great condition for the money , yes i think its worth it .(good ones take ages to find) but if its average or a bomb def not worth the time or the money . Trev
Just keep the one you have, then sell it and go get a TT or just convert it to TT when you get your shiny new big boys licence. Hassle free. Ask ztoy, a very good way to go in the sense that there's no hicas to remove, lighter, and lower diff ratio. Would be perfect for the twisty lover.
