With the wiring. its all a bit tangly. How would I go about removing the whole harness from the back without disconnecting every plug?

Since ill need to get the ECU out eventually anyway and I have a tt harness on the engine. I figure itd be simpler.

Do I get into the ECU compartment and just unplug the whole wiring loom, slide it out or something? Or am I better off disconnecting everything off the engine and folding the harness back while I get the engine out?

Take everything off the engine. Easier.

Ive taken off the harness, cruise control, alternator, power steering pump, and AC compressor.

One question though. Any ideas on how to move the engine? I hae a hoist but nothing to like maneuver it into my backyard with. Any ideas on what kind of trolley thingy will satisfy?

You got concrete everywhere or grass?

If grass then your in for fun :p

I just use a engine stand, but I only push it around in the shed. It's hard enough to move a crane across the grass let alone with 300KG on it.

May sound like a dum idea but get 4 or 8 massive mates wrap seatbelt material through the plenum so that you can pass two big poles through the belts, tighten the whole package and have a protein shake lol. carry the engine like cave men used to carry dead pigs lol. thats what i would do anyway cause i have access to big mates :D

No driveway or anything. I have to push along the road for 10m, onto footpath and slight uphill for 10m, in my little front gate, along the flat path for 5m. :(

I trailered the tt engine to just outside my front gate, and made a laminated cardboard slippery path onto my front porch. Sliding it on a tire. Took about 20mins to get it in. But the n/a engine from my car is a bit further. I guess I could push the crane along the road pretty close to my gate... then work something out from there. Maybe pull the engine into a few parts? Easier that way?

Tried that when getting the tt into my house. 2 big boys 2 small boys. Threaded a metal pole through the chains we put in the plenum. Went for a squat, bust our balls and didnt move the engine. So we dragged it in.

Im sure if I got some bigger friends to come round and set it all up better this would work. Its an option if I dont find anything else.

Ok im well into the engine removal, jsut a few questions.

    1. Oil cooler- this is only on the tt model? In the tech article it said remove oil cooler lines (2x8mm clamps). I couldnt find any such thing then thought oil coolers are only on the tt model arent they?

    2. Also do I need to remove teh driveshaft? Absolutely necessary? Or is it just a lot easier if I do?

    3. With transmission removal- im dont know anything about the transmission. Do I have to remove a whole big thing? or jsut undo the bolts so the bellhousing bit is showing after engines removed. I dont have a transmission jack or anything, do I need one to brace it?

    4. Ive only emptied the oil from the main engine oil sump. Do I need to empty the oil from somewhere else? The transmission somewhere?

One more thing, what kind of chains do I have to use to hoist the engine? As in how thick or strong does it have to be?
    \
As the chain that came with the tt engine looks kind of thin, and one of the shackles on it is all warped looks about to snap..

Instead of potentially damaging your zed seatbelts, just go buy or find someone who has a proper set of engine slingers.... and auto shop will sell them...

Hmm engine slingers. Sounds smart, maybe ill have a look this arvo.

    Back to the point:

    1. Oil cooler- this is only on the tt model?

    2. Do I need to remove teh driveshaft? Absolutely necessary? Or is it just a lot easier if I do?

    3. With transmission removal- Do I have to remove a whole big thing? I dont have a transmission jack or anything, do I need one to brace it?

    4. Do I need to lose any oil other than main engine oil?

yes oil cooler is standard on a TT, not on an NA. What do you mean about the driveshaft? You disconnect it from the gearbox if you taking that out as one lump obviously though not sure if it needs to be slotted out completely or can just hang. I assume you're using the NA box in the TT?
