    Hi guys,

Its been in my head for awhile to ask the guys nearing the top of the drag list with auto's - how do you launch?

When I went the most I could really stall it up to (foot on the brake and accelerator) was about 2k before it started to feel like it would leave me. I have had the auto tranmission rebuilt with shift kit in so it should hold well, I was just reluctant to put into neutral, rev and then drop into drive.

Also - I read the Motec ECU had lauch control, can this work with auto?

never ever rev it in neutral and drop it into drive you will smash the gearbox in no time. the best way to launch would be to get a higher stall converter for more torque multiplication.

Hi Nate, I'm not exactly topping the drag list but I have improved my 60ft time with some tuition. I pump the brake pedal right up and stand on it, stall to my tyres limits which is usually about 2100-2400rpm. So long as you are making boost when you leave the line the smaller auto turbos build boost so fast :D :D
I have only ever run with street/track tyres so it will be interesting to see if the MT drag tyres with softer walls will allow a higher rpm stall.

I don't have big kw so traction isn't an issue for me.

I have never revved it in N and dumped it into Drive, I feel guilty enough stalling her up under brakes.

I can't remember what times you were running? Not sure I could see the board through the clearing smoke! LOL

    Caz... :)

yeah caz my 60ft was pretty bad @ 2.358sec but now looking at it the none of the auto boys have been under 2.0. Can Greg put some info forth with his 2.084 60ft? And can anybody confirm the lauch control question?

X2. foot on break, rev it out as much as you can before the tyres start loosing the grip....you would have built as much boost as you can, and bang rip it out.....one thing you might want to master is instead of putting it to the floor off the line, try different levels or force on the accelerator to control the traction, then soon as its got the grip, plant it and prey to god :D :D

    Sure thing Mate

As Caz said, jump on the brakes as hard as you can, enough gas until you can feel the back of the car act like if you had any more gas it would start to hop around and break traction, then as the lights travel down the post to green, slam down the accelerator, and on the green (or just before) lift the brake.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it :D

My last 60ft was 2.118. Id like to think I can better that with tyres. My transmission is still the original one, not kitted, no ALC and with 190,000klm on it I know I'm pushing my luck :p

Launching is definitely a practice thing. Just get out there and do it over and over trying different things.
I have done some 16sec passes when trying a new launch method didn't quite go as planned   lol

I agree with Chad too on the not totally flooring it at the start, my car does better if I feed the power on quickly rather than just stab it, but that may be my worn/abused transmission.

With M/T tyres I can jam the brake on as hard as possible and mash the go pedal to the floor and it will hold at 3000rpm, then let go of the brake when it's time to move. Don't have a hope of doing this with street tyres. Badly need a stall converter to snap some more power at the back end. Wizard and I have very similar 60ft times as our turbo's will not spool as fast as stockies but when they do, yahooo!!!!

    Stall converter

How expensive are these things? Has anybody has experience with them. I've only heard they are a prick to drive on the street. My mate had a sourer with a 4000rpm stall converter. Said it was a prick to park.....i can only imagine.

Stretch is getting a 2800rpm stall converter put in his, should know in a few weeks what it is like to drive but that would be the range I would be looking at for an alrounder.
