It is to prevent glass from going everywhere if they get broken. It has been a rule for the last 5 or so years.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Pete, is clear adhesive film all that is needed to cover the lights? Do you need to cover the targas? I assume its not necessary for the plastic lenses ie indicators. Question on helmets - Are open face helmets still an option?
Dino, clear adhesive film is OK. Pete runs with a permanent solution on his headlights and fogs, called "Skinz" I think, which provides stone damage protection during normal driving. I have a roll of green tinted plastic used to provide part protection in the car making game which I will be using and bringing to Warwick (could probably cover the whole field!) There is no need to cover targas. Open face helmets OK - important issue is that they have an AS1698 sticker on, and are not too old. If a helmet has other foreign certification standards label on instead, it may be accepted depending on what that standard is. AS1698 makes sure.
ACU Gold and ECE 22-05 safety standard any one know about this type? i use it currently for kart racing Whats the rules on visors? as i have the mirrored type, Legal?
It looks like you helmet is acceptable, the regs say that it will accept the following. E22 (with 03, 04 or 05 amendments) As far as visors go, I use a mirror tint as well, so provided it is of a quality that meets the regs it can be any color you want. I was keen to get out there and have a go but it seems like all too much effort for me. I think I'll sit on the side and watch
all you need is electrical tape to cover the headlights. and it doesnt have to be completely covered.
On sec thoughts, I'm in and I'm gonna completely cover my lights. It'll look siiiiiiiiic haha. Especially with black tape.
