am i able to buy a top idler pulley separate from a 100k service kit? i've searched but i can only find it in the kits. its not the adjustable one either, its the one infront of the plenum between the cam gears. mine is screwed and sounds like a gear drive. the bloke who changed my timing belt said everything was good and it didn't need anymore work, well apparently it does ya douche. zed mechanic my arse
Yes you can from Coz or Concept Z http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/items.php?Car_Type=NIS300&car_cat=Engine - Timing Belt Parts/Kits&CA=58&UID=20110619010632124.168.111.136 or maybe even a bearing shop .
what about in Aus? i know Caz isn't well and Nissan will charge about a trillion dollars. the pulley itself is pitted on one side (don't know why) so i'd rather change it.
Will take a week to get in from US. Is there a rush? You won't find a better price in Aus (unless you try some bearing places).
How do you know? Did you check ? From experience Nissan oz charge about double of Coz, but for a smaller item it is usually cheaper to get it locally. No overpriced shipping then
you can buy that assembly locally for about $35 from the local bearing place. I have many times. I dont bother with OEM for these rollers
Bearing available locally, it's an NSK oem component. Black Baz was looking at supply of 100k parts and may have stock.
just what i wanted to hear. most other things i've bought from Nissan have been pretty expensive so i thought why would this be any different. the pulley has some pitting on it but there aren't any savage sharp edges so i might just replace the bearings.
so whats the trick to getting this pulley out and replaced while leaving the timing belt on and lined up? i've tried searching this too but it only comes under the 100k service.
you use some of those smallish clamps and clip them onto the belt and cam gears so the belt cant move. Undo the roller and carefully wiggle it off then replace with the new one. Remember to put the 6mm bolt back into the tensioner before you do this or the belt will slip back under the tension from the tensioner. You can and I have replaced just the bearing. Its about $10 and comes from an airconditioner compressor replacement. Its a bit fiddly to get right as you have to measure the bearing position within the roller. Then push it in only so far. IMO too much trouble when you can buy the whole assembly for $35-$40 new. Think I got the last one from Bearing Wholesalers. Was $37 from memory. You could try this: After removing the Timing Belt Covers, 1: Get a short length of steel/aluminium bar(about 20mm X 5mm)long enough to lay across the top of the two inner camshaft pulleys, 2: Clamp the bar in place with two pair of Vice-grips, so that the Timing Belt is sandwiched between each pulley and the metal bar(They should not move relative to each other and the Timing Belt should maintain it's current tension), 3: Carefully unbolt the Idler Pulley and remove it, 4: Replace the Idler Pulley Bearing with your new one, 5: Carefully re-install the Idler Pulley and tighten to the correct tension, 6: Remove the Vice-grips & metal bar, 7: Refit the Timing Belt Covers(and cross your fingers).:zlove::zlove: STUFF YOU TEKKY! You typed that up, quicker than I did.:br:
Thats what the extra few years of growth of sausage fingers will do to you Lloyd. Dont worry mine are getting bigger every year as well !!
awesome, thanks chilli and tekky you have no idea how much i've been searching for this info. i've always thought only the bottom pulley was a tensioner and the the top one was just a regular pulley, is this right?
Have you noticed a corresponding shrinkage in other appendages occurring simultaneously(just asking, that's all)?:zlove::br:
There is only one tensioner/roller , the bottom left one. The other 2 are only position rollers. Top one is just a regular pulley. The diffeence between the centre/top one and the roller on the right is the length of the centre boss The right side one is longer. If you look at the tensioner, There is a hole down near the pistion where you screw in a 6mm screw which stops the tensioner from opening right up when you fit a belt. Sorry, aint got any pics.
If I had I wouldnt be elaborating here Lloyd And holy crap they reckon your ears get bigger as you age. No ones called me dumbo yet !!
Mahouts have better manners than to do something like that(just settle down, have a few Peanuts and avoid small rodents).:rofl::rofl:
