    Hi All,
Was thinking of removing A/C system how hard is it and is it worth it for the weight gain ? I not an a/c person like the wind in the hair.
    Cheers

The AC system isn't really all that much weight unless you're going proper track spec, the bulk of the mass is the compressor itself, I don't think condenser, evaporator and pipes would add up to more than 10kg. If it works and you live somewhere closer to the tropics you should keep it for it's demisting power if not for the comfort. Other than that it's not too hard to remove although getting the condenser out without damaging it is tricky.

Id be keeping it and i did keep it. Remove all other weight before aircon.

These cars are like an oven without AC. I live in Melbourne, one of Australia's colder cities, and I'd never ditch it. Hell no.

My compressor seized and the decision was pretty much made for me.

If yours is functioning, I would leave it alone. Only pull it out if it's faulty.

mine had a dud compressor and I dont miss the lack of AC. even in Gero where the temps are relatively warm.

Pulling it out is a horrible job. Putting it back in is even worse. Don't do it.

cut the belt off, drive it for 6 months through spring an summer if you don't miss it than remove the rest. Would have to be 50kgs in it.

Actually the weight saving is much lower than that.

I left the aux fan in place originally but have taken that out too recently.

Overall saving around 26kg including AUX fan which wasn't in my original weighing.

And if you do remove the evaporator from the interior I would recommend installing a filter to keep leaves and junk out of the fans, very annoying.

I think I might just remove the compressor and hoses,
Does the fan act as a back up if the car gets to warm?

Fan is supposed to kick in when aircon is on OR when the coolant temp exceeds a preset threshold which last time I checked was really high (100C+)

If there's no aircon and your cooling system is in good order, you could remove that too.

I dunno I would keep the electric fan as a back up to a rooted fan clutch for slow traffic.

    As mentioned above,
It is worth keeping for the demister setting.

If you think your air con isn't worth keeping, then it needs regas and aux fan mod. A great air con in a glasshouse car like a Z32 is a must have IMO. It isn't always practical to lift off the roof, the air con is a flick of the switch :D

I think he was, as I did, refer to the electric fan on the radiator/condenser.

But I agree the other fan should be kept for the demister or replace with something simpler.

I'm going to keep the Demister was more the fan on the condenser as Perth traffic sucks balls at the best of time so I'll keep that but remove compressor and hoses and condenser
Keep in the shed and become a zed hoarder like the rest of us ✌

even though everything AC related forward of the firewall is gone in my car the others here are absolutely correct, do not remove it if you really have a choice, I dont regret removing mine but I intend to be buried with my Z..... your car will be much more saleable with AC, and it is (as the others have stated) a wonderful option to have at times. my car is no longer my daily and will never be again. Yes when it is back on the road it will get driven a reasonable amount but the AC will not be as much of a necessity in my future use of the car.
