Madcow. Fortunately if the damper fails, it wont be instantaneous, nor should it cause instant catastrophic engine failure. The spring is what keeps the belt under tension and that isnt going to fail any time soon. If the damper is to leak, then it will happen slowley over time and i will see it. if all of the fluid somehow blows out (unlikely) then i will most likely notice sounds & symptoms of the belt flopping about. This is only a standard engine and doesnt have huge valve train loads. Heck, some people use solid non dampening tensioners on their high performance engines. I am not at all worried and I have 100% faith in my repair. Re mysterious damper specs: I have made a couple assumptions based on basic engineering principles. At this moment in time, the damper is functioning as required. A few inaccuracies will far outweigh a non functioning part (which I was instructed by others as fine to use). If my engine blows up, I'll be sure to let you guys know.
Hopefully, with any luck, it should be fine. Funny story from late last night. Hooked up the auxiliary belts and started it up... made a bad metallic noise like valves hitting pistons! Crapping my pants - triple checked timing marks. Looks ok. 5 minutes later, found the power steering pulley was slightly rubbing on a pivot bolt that I had forgot to re-tighten. lol Much novice, I am. Working on cars late at night when dog tired should be prohibited haha. When I stuff up, I'm not afraid to admit it. haha No one is perfect and we all make mistakes.
this thread needs to move to ZRNT as there is zero technical points in here and then all the posts can be undeleted to keep context.
