Tail Light "warning" after LED installation

Ok, I have installed LED lights for all my brake tail lights and now a few weird things happen. When I brake the warning light comes on, the clock flashes and the lights over my back number plate flash. I understand why the light warning comes on as I have reduced the resistance and it thinks they are blown, but what about the other lights flashing?

I read in tech section about similar problem and it says to disconnect the sensor, but it does not say how to or where it is located? any one know how to disconnect sensor?

Sounds like you introduced some kind of capacitance. lol. It's a little black box behind the driver's side interior boot trim. Unplug it then you have to short the terminals on the connector.
    Looks like this but black

in my old mazda this unit measured the amount of resistance in the circuit, when a globe goes out then the resistance changes, I figure if the same applies to the Z's the LED install has change the resistance, it may be possible to modifiy the unit with the correct application of resistors. Do realise this is very subtle differences we are talking about here.

thanks, ill give it a go and let you know how it works

It will be the Low resistance of the LED globes. I had the same problem when i did a clear tailight swap. I remember reading to add enough resisters to create the enough resistance is like way more expensive then just buying red tailight globes which is what ive done now as my LED globes started dieing after 3 years.

You don't short the terminals on the black box, you do it on the plug where it was connected to. You'll need some spade connectors, just short each of the 4 pairs of terminals (1 pair isn't connected to anything but can't remember which).

If you pull apart the black box, you'll get a good understanding of how it connects. Also I'll give you $10+post for your black box :)

Ill pull it apart and have a look then I might just cut the whole thing out and solder all the pairs of wires together. Ill let you know how it goes.

I should have a spare one of these black boxes from my wreck, I am willing to sell it to you for $10 + $5 postage. PM me with your details and then Ill send you mine.

    problem solved

ok bit of trial and error but I finally got everything working.

I ended up having to short circuit 2 of the four pair and just cut the other two pairs. that solved the flashing lights and clock problem, I still had the warning light problem so I simply wnet under the dash and removed the bulb for the warning light, FIXED!

thanks to everyone for the speedy help

remember I am still wrecking a car if anyone needs anything?

well turns out everything works except when I put the lights on I have no tail lights.

anyway, I stuffed around with electricals and it seems I have blown the brake fuse, but I am having trouble locating it. I have looked at the wiring diagrams and they are not set out in the same pattern as the fuses in my car.

does anyone know which fuse is for the brake light?

You don''t have any tail lights because you cut them, you goose!!!

These are the pinouts for the black box.

    LED brake lights are rubbish

problem solved there are 2 fuses in the two engine bay boxes, one was out. I also removed the stupid LED lights cause all they do is cause trouble. DO NOT BUY LEDs' for your rear brake lights they cause to many issues

Duh mate. I had mine for 2 or so years and in the end they started to flicking and only 1 or 2 out of the 12 LEDs where working. Ive got red globes now and they are great.
