No, not OEM and I don't have a part number. Sorry.

Hello again, gear is starting to arrive and my mechanic will be sorting out the coilovers, rotors, pads, FUCA, OEM shock absorber bushing kit and the HICAS lockout toe rods from SPL first off then sort out another time to sort out the front end upgrades. My question for the moment is regarding thermostats.

OEM direct replacement (76.5C) $96 AUD to my door.
Mishimoto (60C) $120 AUD to my door.
Tridon HF (77C) $59 to my door.
Nismo (65C) $273 AUD to my door.

Now I did read through an old thread on here titled: "Nismo thermostat, is it really worth it" - or something to that effect - from 2011 and I just wanted to get some refreshed opinions.

I am just thinking about renewing it when the front end gets removed.

Zed isn't for the track, and will predominately see highway k's to nice locations so I am fairly sure the OEM one is the way to go, and with the Tridon being right in that ballpark temp wise, that would seem to be the go to correct?

Also, the cost of the Nismo TS? bloody hell! What makes it so valuable exactly?

Oh and one thing I did take away from that thread mentioned was lads talking about running their Z's with a cooler TS to keep further away from catastrophic engine failure temps when their Z was being pushed..has this line of thought got any merit?

Not really, it's a ghetto patch. The cooling system has worse performance the cooler it is anyway so the 'extra' cool-running time will disappear the fastest under stress anyway but then the other 99.5% of your miles you'll be burning dirtier. It's fine for a track hack but not good design for a cooling system.

I haven't dealt much with Tridon but if it does what it says on the box then it's a good option. Bit of a different topic but are you running underdrive/lightweight pulleys for the alternator and water etc.?

Personally I'd go genuine, not a big fan of Tridon products.

Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying. Where do you guys predominately order your parts? Do you have select online marketplaces you use or just google select parts and use a different supplier on a regular basis or.. ? Further back in this thread I was advised that z1 wasn't the be all end all but I find their website easy to use and so far reliable. That Andy's mob I grabbed the Brembo's off tho... The front and rear slotted rotors to suit the 300 that are available on their website (still were when i last checked) that I ordered and purchased were superseded. Here check this email I got out:

45470 (Brembo) Brembo Rotors - Sport Series Slotted (Rear)

45417 Brembo Rotors - Sport Series Slotted (Front)

    Hello,

45417 supersedes to 33S60051 and we have 1 left in inventory at this moment. 45470 supersedes to 33S60060 and this number has been discontinued by Brembo. All stock has been sold and it is now no longer available.

    A. The 33S60051 would ship within 1-2 days but the 33S60060 will never again be available.

    B. We do have a cross-drilled version of the 33S60060/45470 which is 33S50060 if you are willing to switch. However the front 33S60051/45417 is not available cross-drilled anymore.

C.These are the correct part numbers for a 1993 Nissan 300ZX turbo. -

Please let us know how you wish to proceed.

Bloody selling me shit they don't have, its a joke. It boils down to all I can get is slotted fronts and cross-drilled rears. How I was even able to order and pay for what is essentially granddaddy rotors i'll never know. I mean I said to the dude that if that's how it is, then that's that...but I want a discount.

Ha, I just checked and .. http://www.andysautosport.com/shopbybrand/brembo/nissan_300zx.html they are still selling shit they don't have!

I'm not, but after looking into it, I bloody should be! I will order the set : https://www.z1motorsports.com/engine-parts/ams/ams-underdrive-pulley-set-p-2934.html with the OEM TS I think. That's the kinda heads up on stuff I really appreciate! Nice and easy to get it done with the rad, clutch etc. aswell which will be good!

Yeah so dump the Brembos and get a set of DBA Street Slotted local wherever you can get them cheapest and use the $1000 you saved on the Brembos on more important stuff ;)

Rob260 is good for local parts if he has stock. Otherwise Z1 or Coz in the US, or rockauto. Summitracing is also good.

Bugger me I have five new oem thermostats sitting here. Never knew I was sitting on a goldmine. Pm me if you'd like to buy one it will be much less than $96...

$18 American but with the conversion rate and shipping it got up there. But I just want parts ordered to turn up without any hiccups that's all.

I was too late to ask to purchase the rear main seal kit from you as my order was already in motion, but this one isn't yet.

    Pm incoming

Underdrive pulleys can actually reduce cooling performance so until you've got the gauges going and tested the new radiator etc. I wouldn't go for them.

For suppliers Rob is good (rgsperformance linked in his sig) plus there's Marcus another local and forum member carcraze.com.au, you're often better off sending emails or PMs to check for factory parts with these guys as keeping a website inventory updated is slow work for a sole trader and Rob can always get you a quote on anything Nissan still distributes. Same goes for brakesdirect, give him a call or email to see what he has available at the time, Australia is a small market and these guys are always renegotiating with various distributors and manufacturer's sales and new products etc. Other good sites are kudosmotorsport, lots of OEM and some good Jap aftermarket stuff for various Nissans, again if it's not listed it's worth sending an email (they have nismo 'stats way cheaper than your price http://www.kudosmotorsports.com/cat...mo-21200-rs580-nissan-300zx-skyline-p-49.html), Taarks are good although not much VG stuff.

Then from the US in addition to Z1 there's ConceptZPerformance who regularly ship to Aus although their website is getting messy now.

Forgive my ignorance, but how would the lightweight underdrive pulleys and belts being upgraded be detrimental to the cooling performance?

Yeah, i'll certainly need to be buying local where I can, postage from international suppliers is a bitch. I have found some speciality Nissan wreckers in Brissy though which I'm sure I'll use again!

The underdrive pulleys don't underdrive the water pump or alternator as far as I know. They do reduce the power steering assistance slightly

    IB ?????

They underdrive the water pump so the water pump spins slower. Is only likely to be an issue in slow traffic.

For a street car they are really snake oil and only make idle less smooth and allow belts to slip more easily.

I have one in the shed that used to be on my zed.

Thank you for the heads up.

Rookie error inbound: a lot if my shit ie; coilovers $18xx, rad and all z1 shit for $14xx and my Brembo's for $12xx are all stalling out in Customs while they bill me again and again those fucking filthy fucking mother fuckers!

Should've broken up the Z1 order a bit more, i ordered the fan, shroud etc. seperate tho so thats something. But fuck. Doing right by your Z with the good gear gets to be that much harder with shit like this. Hopefully it won't take too long for them to bill me and release my shit.

Wonder what they'll sting me. Why couldn't I just have liked a shitty falcon on gas like a normal pleb

How long does the bill take to get?

Powertrix's have been there since the 10th. Probably gonna bill me by bloody snail mail aswell I guess

Edit; is there a certain amount of time items are held before bills are sent out is probably a better way to put it.

Pretty sure your getting stung for import duty too...

If you know they're being held up at customs why not ring & ask for an update?

Well....I happened to of done that, then got put into contact with Ausposts international wing to get a reference number essential to filling out a N10 Customs Import Declaration B374 document, but I also needed the correct Tariff number for my shipment, and boy'o'boy, that's where the fun begins ;)

What an absolute shit show that all is, if I weren't self employed i'd never have had the time to get that done, I spent about 3 hours today completing that document and finding an obscure Tariff and Stat Code number to suit my imported coilovers.

To be fair, there is a very small list (relatively speaking) of "commonly imported items" that is a whole lot easier to reference....if what you have arriving is in the damn list. I see clearly now why there aren't oodles of people lining up to do cars up, or just being fed up and buying whatever they can get in Australia.

The real good thing is that I've got to do the same for the rest of my Z1 order and the brembo's....At least the brakes are easily found. the z1 order with multiple things on it will be the nightmare.

I must be preaching to the damn choir telling you guys this shit tho

I mean these Powertrix's SS were on sale for $1089 USD with another $350 USD for the Swift springs..with postage and currency conversion I ended up paying $22xx, with this imposed duty and associated charges, I reckon i'll be up around $25xx if not even more. Talk about naïve. I knew it was going to be a bit, but fucking hell.
