hey guys.i am wanting to add some bass to my car. already have 6.5" splits front but no bass. i have seen some Z's with a sub mounted in the rear corners in the boot of the car. i have an aus spec so i would mount it vertically in the right rear corner of the boot. (need to still be able to remove my targas). does anyone have any idea how much the installation will cost if i get someone else to custom make the box for me and also what size sub can i get to fit in there?thanks

I have been quoted around $350 from autobarn

that was for a custom fibreglass and MDF box for my 12 inch JL. To give you an idea my current box is around 35 litres. Pretty big. If i were you and valued targa space i would look at a really good 10 inch or a space efficient 12 (like an alpine). They certainly wont get down as deep as my 12 but you wont need it.
I think Alpine subs need like 28 litres from memory. Hope this helps you out. Stan :YD

    heres my setup...

i bought a sony 12" that was already installed in a sony box from jb hifi,i bought a 480w sony amp and just screwed it on the back of the box and it sits in the back of my boot,my mate wired it up with some quick release connections so if i need all the boot space i just disconnect it and take it out, takes around 5 seconds.if you would like to see some pics reply to this or email me on brettnaiomi@yahoo.com.au and i can email them to you.box and sub $190 on special was $399 and the amp wasabout $280 off memory.my mate installed it,took about 2 hours and cost me $100 for cable, connections and his time.
    regards brett

I have a sub in an Ausspec NA

It's in a fibreglass mold upholstered in vinyl. Also a solid 2 piece floor has been added. I have emailed a pic to you cause I don't know how to host yet to include pics in posts. The sub, floor and fitting cost $500 - expensive but a quality job.cheers,Peter

    Here is what I did

I built a box from 15mm thick particle board with an angled top surface of around 15 degrees, approx 250 mm high at the rear and 100 high at the front. I built in a speaker connector, flush mounted one from dick smiths are cheap enough, this allows for complete removal without using connectors that wear down. Made sure the box was sealed shut on all the edges.I put in an amount of 'fluff' gotten out of other speaker boxes, this fools the woofer into resonating the same as if it were in a larger area. One twelve inch sub installed with a metal domed top mesh fitted to protect the speaker and a black felt cloth covering ($5.00 from my local furnishings man)and a staple gun. Now I can leave it pointing backwards in the boot space where it gets held down in place by the provided straps, or if I need the space It fits neatly on to my parcel shelf after the removal of the tonneau cover, pointing forwards it looks cool too. If I need all the space I unhook it and store it in the garage in seconds.
    Good luck
