Looking to replace the 6x4 stock rear speakers, don't want to install amps etc but hoping for something with a little more bass than stock, any suggestions? Cheers

Is it a 2 seater? Grab these: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329706 and put some 6.5"s in them

So I'm guessing the purpose of getting the pods is that they fit in the same space that the stocks fit and give me the option of putting 6.5" in the rear without having to cut etc?

Boxing your mids will also improve their bass clarity. Another option depending on how much you were going to spend is to get an 'active sub' their small package subs with built in amps and help to fill out the low range

How do you hook up the active sub - do you have to have a special deck with sub connections ?

Shouldn't have to, just an rca output. The active subs should have a sub crossover built in. Probably best to check that when ya buy it though.

Yeah, usually work with either RCAs (any after market head deck should have them) or 'high level' input from speaker wires if you're running off the stock unit
