So i finally got a steering rack for my car today thanks to Arvin. :D

I called up pedders and they want $285 to install it inc a wheel alignment that sounds reasonable to me. My other option is my cousins work where they charge $120 an hour labour but the up side to going there is once its done they can do the RWC for me as well.

And before anyone suggests i do it myself id be in over my head and i need this done ASAP. Im just after some opinions on pedders price and maybe how long a rack install takes so i can roughly calculate the cost of going to my cousins work.

No probs, Jamie. I was charged $150 last time by a generic mechanic. I don't think it would take more than an hour to install it if your cousin knows what he's doing.

    Glad to be of help...

Thats another thing i forgot to mention my cousins work is mainly a truck mechanic they do RWC for cars and jobs here and there but the majority of there work is trucks. So i was kinda leaning towards pedders coz they are a suspension/steering place.

I might ring around tomorrow to see if i can get closer to $150.

I did it by sliding it sideways and it was easier than it looked. Put the car on stands, disconnect all the hardlines and mounts and it will come out with a big of wriggling.

Never did it before, give yourself a afternoon and you'll figure it out. Take it to get a wheel alignment done afterwards because all the settings will be way off.

Personally, I'd take it anywhere but pedders. Overly expensive and not exactly the best in the business from what I've heard. Do a search on pedders then make your decision.

We have an excellent Pedders branch here in Sydney(Granville). This workshop is very experienced on Z32's and Skylines(and is meticulous with the attention to accuracy of the work they perform).
I highly recommend this particular workshop and have been using them for more than 10 years.
Don't paint all Pedders with the same brush.:(:(

So my cuz is going to her work tomorrow (Yes i said her she is a diesel mechanic) to see when they can do it. I also rang up about 5 or 6 local mechanics none want to touch the job.

Thanks for the info Abraham but im trying to get it done as close to home as possible.

So i guess il see what happens tomorrow and take it from there

No worries...there are plenty of shops that can do it everywhere...so you will definitely find a place to do it sooner...if on my side you will more than likely get it done by next week at the latest lol anyways good luck :)

So just found out that vic roads wont give me a temp pass to actually take the car to get the rack put in apparently its still registered just suspended which means they cant issue one.

So it isnt allowed to be driven but they want me to fix the car, provide a RWC before the 4th of nov but without being able to take the car anywhere...

What messed up rules we have here.
