Squeaky Brakes

Just put on brand new pads and brand new rotors. 90% of the time the brakes work fine and are silent, but every now and then (once after a hills run and once after pulling the handbrake while driving) they develop a deathly squeal and the pedal gets quite soft and my breaking performance goes down the hill. Obviously the best solution is upgrading the brakes from stock but any other suggestions?

    What pads did you get?

Also, when you say the pedal gets soft, is it actually softer/depressing further or just doing less braking?

This was just talked about a couple of weeks ago.
Long story short I lathered the crap out of the shims with a rubber sealant, wasn't the correct stuff to use but it worked. I also put it on the sides of the brake pads were they rub up against the caliper.

Here is the link of the thread if you want to have a read over it.

Didn't read your whole question properly, my bad as this didn't really fully answer your question
    Lol

You do realize that the temperature generated by using the brakes would incinerate any crap you apply in such a manner(as well as potentially contaminating the Braking material AND the disc surface), thereby decreasing the Braking Efficiency of the those components???:bash:

    There is nothing wrong

    ....with the stock brakes.
There is something wrong with pulling the handbrake while your driving though.
Tom is probably on the right track asking what type of brake pads you've installed.
The soft pedal & reduced performance could be brake fluid related, or air in the system.
What type of brake fluid did you use?

You can get the correct anti squeal brake compound for $16.00 at Super Cheap Auto.
Why on earth would you use something not designed to operate in such a high temperature environment?

"I also put it on the sides of the brake pads were they rub up against the caliper".

This area is where you should of applied high temperature silicone grease, specifically designed for this application, not rubber compound.

    :bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash::bash:

    It did the trick
It was called brake grease so I used it. Just not the stuff that CZP or Z1 sent me cas I lost it .whats the big deal it's on the back of the pads

Maybe I should have worded it a little different my bad

Not sure on the brand - they were installed during my roadworthy by dontex. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

The brakes just don't work for shit once they start squealing haha

It was not for any other reason than to test the brake whilst driving, and a single pull of the handbrake caused it to happen. I thought this was strange.

Hand brake is almost completely independent of the normal pads so I would say you've got a hardware issue, something loose or jamming. Unless the pads were from go-lo it's unlikely that you're overheating them; are they getting super dusty, particularly around the times they're getting noisey?

If the brake pedal is still firm then it's not fluid and could be pad fade but again it's unlikely you're actually getting them that hot. I would be making sure the pad retaining pins are in place, clean and not damaged. Maybe pull the disc off and check that the handbrake gear is all in place too.

That's the grease you put on the brake piston seals.
It's an assembly grease for rubber.
You would be advised to go & buy a few cans of brake cleaner, disassemble your brakes & start again ASAP.

The anti squeal compound Super Cheap have is DynaGrip Disc Brake Squeal Free.

Repco market CRC Disc Brake Quiet & the high temperature grease is CRC Sta-Lube brake caliper Synthetic Grease.
You only apply a little bit of grease to the calipers/brake pad plates.
