I've always had a convential spare tyre. The z I recently purchased is an import from Japan. It came with a spacesaver as a spare. Tried to inflate it at the servo, it didn't seem to work. It looks like it has a different kind of valve as compared to the 4 other wheels. It has a sticker on the spare, however, Its in Japanese. Can anyone tell me how to inflate the spacesaver (as silly as it sounds) ? Also, how many of you have a convential spare ? N
My understanding is that ALL Z32's come with a Spacesaver spare. The 2 seaters have a deflated spare, and the 2+2's have an already inflated one(due to there being more available space in the boot). You need about 60psi to inflate the deflated spare (I think), and you should not drive more than 80kph when using it.
yeah ausspecs are same.. thats right they got cheese cutters for spare tyres, mine is 60 psi, but all the valves on mine are all the same.
I have also has problems with the space saver Mine inflates to about 30psi then some sort of valve opens and all the air starts to gush out???
That's what it is supposed to do(if it's a 2-seater spare) the pop-off valve is there to stop in getting over-inflated.
had no issues when i tested my spacesaver (2 seater) some time back .. inflated to 60psi at a servo air station with the normal clamp ... time to test it again, methinks .....
Yeah I had to put mine on the other night and it blew up on me...cheap piece of <grumble><grumble> I didn't even get to 10kph before it blew!!! Can you buy space saver tyres?!?
Space savers Couldn't find any listed at local Z suppliers (eg.ttzed or UAS), others might know of an alternative. I'd say eBay or better yet, wrecking yard would be your best bets. And yes, space savers need to be inflated to at least 60 psi, preferably 70.
the last time I use my space saver, I had to use my ciggy lighter compressor. I left it pumping after about ten mins, hitched a ride with my flat to a servo, got it fixed came back and put it on and my saver was still flat.
IT's spose to do that?? Two problems. 1 the tyre was only at 30psi before the valve opened, sticker says 50psi or something higher that 30. 2 even if I got it to the required pressure how do I know the pressure of the car and driving on it won't open the valve?
Well, if you think it's not working properly, then you really should have it checked out by a professional tyre dealer/service centre. This is not something you should poke around at, IMHO. Remember that these spares are ONLY meant to be used in an absolute emergency(and only to get to the nearest service centre, at no more than 80kph). They are not intended as an alternative to buying another tyre. I'm not saying that is what you are trying to do, but I have seen several drongo's in Sydney(all in Skylines, strangely) driving at 120kph on the freeway with a spacesaver fitted. That is suicidal.
you can buy space saver tyres. they obviously have to go on the appropriate wheel. I don't know about the deflated ones, i can have a look for them, i reckon they would be a burst haemaroid to fit them though. Can any one tell me the space saver size, i had a deflated one.
While we are on the subject of space savers, does anyone have a space saver tie down bolt. Yes iv been to the wreckers. Send a pm if u do. Regards Bruce
yep, that's the problem, andy .. they sit in the well for years, untouched, perishing ... and when you finally need it .. booommm!!! ..
I used an M8x60 Socket Head Screw with a big washer, worked a treat, but needed an allen key. The standard tie down bolt has a convenient grip for undoing by hand. The 2 seater inflate/deflate spacesaver is a Bridgestone 185x60D-15 Fold Flex Favourite (honest!!!). Until I found one at a wrecker in almost mint condition, I had one that had obviously been used on a pranged car with the rubber being cut/chopped big time. I was told it would be $350 odd to replace; this was 6 years ago. As for compressors, the standard issue Nissan compressor supplied with the 2-seater works twice as fast and quieter than the el-cheapo KMart type jobs. Well worth trying to find one.
don't believe that name, mikey ...!!! .. F-F-F .. could also stand for "Flaming Fred Flintstone: .. or something a lot worse .... lol.. .. but thanks heaps for your info .. especially the compressor stuff ...:zlove:
