something missing?

G'day people proud new owner of 90 black tt.What a machine.Have been going over the car and noticed = of the 2pipes coming out of the exhaust and back to the engine , only one has the hose coming off into little airbox?looking jigger.The passenger side steel pipe is bent over and none of the little airbox behind the front wheel is there,the whole lot taken out.WHY and is this bad.

 

That's the AIV's, most people remove them.
