So I was out driving my zed with a mate around Emerald today when the worst came to pass. Exiting a roundabout we hit a big patch of oil, we were traveling at about 40km... the tires just let go and we skidded off the road and annihilated a bus shelter. Fortunately we are both unharmed due to the low speed impact, however I cannot say the same for my beloved gun metal mistress. Going to get someone from Just Cars to have a look in a day or two once I've had the chance to pull out the SAW kit and change bonnets from my carbon fibre conceptz one... I'd really like to hear the opinions of some more seasoned zed veterans, pics below; thank you for any help in advance.

Yep, bus shelter is ****ed, no rebuilding that !

The car will go close i think, depending on value. The damage in front of the rear wheel is the issue.

Absolutely zero chance of them repairing that lol.

Glad you're okay and good idea with taking the aftermarket parts off.

    Sorry to see that.

If Just Car agrees to fix her, then that will make them awesome.

Yes pull the undervalued accessories ASAP.

    Write off

I personally wouldn't want to fix it .

Hate to see that at a 60km hit .

Thanks for the insight guys. I had a suspicion that would be the case. Going to salvage the SAW kit, cf bonnet and sound gear. Truth be told I was approaching the 200k km service mark and the rear main seal had just started leaking... There's so many better condition unmolested tt autos out there that really this isn't the worst thing that could have happened... Staying with a zed though.

Sorry for the crash but loved the picture progression. I got to the 3rd pic and thought if that's how bad the car looks what's the bus shelter look like, and like you read my mind there's the shelter in the next pic.
Anyway, looking at that rear quarter damage, I'm no expert but considering the quarter window didn't break, the dent may not have reached anything important and you might get away with just a new panel. I had a car that got far worse damage in that area and was repaired (got T-boned in a laser). That front end damage looks to be just cosmetic and wouldn't take much to repair with some new bits. Good luck with the insurance, hope they repair it for you.

All that at 40k's ? damn poor bus stop and shelter, now where all them poor folks gonna sit when it's raining ??? huh you bus shelter killer you.

Seriously though, glad no one got hurt either in the car or at the bus stop. Pray they write it off and start from scratch and avoid bus shelters like the plague.

I've fixed far worse than that....... hardest bit will be the rear 1/4,
I'd do a remove and replace on the rear 1/4 to do it correctly and that's a big time consumer. At a stab in the dark and without seeing pics from inside the boot and behind the drivers seat with trim/carpets removed, its a 2 day job just for the rear 1/4 replacement (add primer and paint to that)

the rest is an unbolt and replace with straight panels where required and a coat of color to suit.....

having stripped my one down I would hate to do a rear 1/4 on a Z there are literally 10 times the spot welds to a normal car. I can see why a panel beater would not want to do one, hell I am a panel beater and I dont think I would do mine if it was hit there.

So it turns out that it is indeed a write off, the hunt for another zed begins. My best mate who was behind the wheel didn't cop a fine or gain any demerit points and no one has got in contact about the bus shelter.

@Gazza, yeah I can't really deny the fact that we quietly admired the carnage in a disheartened sort of way once the shock had worn off. We went back and took pictures the next day. That piece of road is a death trap in the wet apparently; there's a crap load of missing grass and little trenches along that embankment from accidents. The guy living on the other side of the road came out with folding chairs and cups of tea for us... Apparently it's a well rehearsed routine.

@scottyoz1962, from what we can work out, the rear quarter was the first point of impact and it collided with the sign pole. Heavy vehicle + small surface area, thus the extent of the damage. The front looks bad but we did manage to drive it home, headlights even worked.

Lucky dude, at least the headlights still worked :p , but you can bet your bottom dollar, local council or whoever is responsible for the bus shelter will contact you for money for repairs. But insurance should cover it.

I'd contact the council, makes you look good and as said, your insurance will cover you and it's easier to get it all sorted at once rather than having to go back to your insurance company again when the council does find you.

    Ditto

While your at it find out if the shelter has a building plan and permit..... A local guy down here had the council pay for his car after it was discovered the shelter was not council approved
