    hey guys,

Just wondering what the market is like for selling a zed? I am thinking about selling mine as I rarely drive it now that I am in brisbane. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes. I have seen zeds for sale ranging from 5K to 15K or more but the redbook states its 7-9K

I have also seen dealer ads selling for under 10K so I was wondering if its worth trading it in? Anyone know what the trade in price is?

    Anyone sold their Zed recently?

    regards

    daz

I've found imports and sports cars much easier to sell lately.

    It's never worth trading in.

If your z is well maintained mechanically, then it shouldn't have a hard time selling. Price will depend on overall condition of course and spec, trim etc. Post some details up or look through the for sale section of this site for an idea of price. I bought my z for $3500 but a worked TT 2+0 slicktop could get 20k+

    Hey m8,

Unfortunately, selling a Z these days seems to be a hard feat... I sold my last Z heavily modified for under 8k...

Depending on the mods, maintenance etc I'd say you would be looking at anywhere from 5-12k...

Dont even bother speaking to a dealer. They will lowball the s$#^ outta you. Probably looking at half market value from a dealer.

Get some pics and info up on the car. I'm sure the guys will chime in with what to expect from the sale.

    Good Luck! :)

Yeah, could being the opperative word. gets to a point where people spending that much money don't want a 20 year old car. But it does happen.

depends on the car and the work done.

Ive seen a few sell for 20+.. Ak's Z by rights should sell for more then 20 LOL.

ive seen a few fetch 15-19000's lately but .. either that or their listings just dissapeared ?

My '90 2+2 auto imported NA went for $6k a few months ago. The big things that slowed down a sale heaps (i had mine up for sale since july/august) for me were the auto transmission, age of the car, unknown k's(due to it being a grey import),my exhaust which was a tad loud (scaring off older guys) but the biggest part was trying to sell it in Canberra - easily one of the worst markets ever, as soon as I put the state on carsales to NSW I had a sale within a couple of weeks in Sydney.

So keep things like that in mind when selling

not easy. bunch of cheap shit z on the market now, as you can see 5.5k you can get a TT.
and most of the people just want a cheap one and dont care the condition.

The good ones don't seem to be selling. I'm suprised Kzed's hasn't sold; he's giving it away at that price.
Buyers don't seem to understand the difference between a neglected Z that you'd think twice about driving more than 5km from home or a fastidiously maintained Z that is as reliable as a Swiss timepiece.
Have considered selling mine lately but I doubt anyone would pay what I'd be asking.

It's a buyers market. The majority of Z's for sale have brought down the price, but people who have a head on their shoulders will see the difference between a cheap Z and a not so cheap Z.

I have mine on the market, but only as far as putting a For Sale sign on the window. I'm in no rush to sell & if the right person comes along, it will sell. I don't have time for tyre kickers etc...

I have $18,000 on mine (which is a lot more than your average Z), but at that price I'm throwing in a complete manual conversion kit. If it doesn't sell, I'll simply keep her (& convert it myself) :)

thats becasue a good percentage of buyers are younger male p-platers , who are buying the cheapest one they can get there hands on.......then sell it again a few months later "coz they are sick of it", or "decided they want a motorbike", wanna swap" .........everytime i read something like that it makes me facepalm so f'ing bad![TIS]
also, on that note, im sick of reading in every add that the cars in "good condition" when its clearly not and if it was youd be asking more money for it..........just be honest and youll have more chance of moving the damn thing, is it that hard to understand!
sorry to all the p-platers out there to stereo type you, but those of you who have been on this forum for longer than 6 months or so, it doesnt apply to you.........if you havent been here long yet or owned your car for a while, well lets just wait and see lol....

Thing is, you can buy a 300zx show car or even race car for just over 20k (and they've been there for ages, nobody is buying). Makes me either wish that our cars were worth more... or with that i had a spare 20k :D

It's probably a bit of a bad time to be trying to sell anything! Let's face it, even if you've got a 1995 / 1996 Z - it's a 15 or 16 year old sports car that's probably had as many owners... If you've got an '89 - it's only 8 years off being awarded 'vintage car' status. We all know you can spend a small fortune fixing-up a worn-out Z and the trouble is, so many of them are just that - "worn-out". As long as there's plenty of worn-out Z's coming up for sale, it's going to be difficult to get a good price for a really nice one. The good news (I reckon) is that within a few years, all the buggered and almost buggered Z's will be off the road & parted-out leaving just the well kept, nice Z's. At that point, if someone wants a Z, they'll certainly have to pay for it - and prices will climb back up to where they should be for these pieces of art.

the above is true. even the late specs are now getting on in age. majority of the imports on carsales are 89-90 during the 15 year old window and because most of them are in a bad way, it's bringing down the market price quite a lot.

while the best buy is going to be a late spec, even they are coming to that age when they need lots of work. it's like buying a 89-90 import 5 years ago and finding out they need 100k service, plenum pulls, general fixes for wear and tear etc.

if you're going to sell, have plenty of documentation to prove money has been spent on maintenance. if it hasn't had any but didn't need it, it depends on how the potential buyer looks into it. if he knows Zeds he has grounds to lower the price due to lack of maintenance. if it's a newbie who's done no research, he might pay what you're asking purely based on the appearance of the vehicle.

trading in the price depends on the dealer and how hard they want to roll you over the barrel. usually expect half the redbook price.

Hang on to your Z's. These are awesome machines...

when maintained. People are getting brain washed by the 600HP Stupid cars which will never see past probably 130km/h on AU public roads. (Just like mega pixels on cameras now adays - 12mp what a joke.)

So what if the Z is 20YO. The most expensive cars in the world are ancient by comparison to the Z. The Year thing is just a means to drive down the price. They are not a Laser or a Falcodore but the worn down examples are obviously treated as such and deserve to be sold for < 50c.

I have seen Z32 examples that I would not pay any money for. On the otherside of the coin seen examples worth droolling over and I have an appreciation for a lot different type/brand of classic cars.

Could just mean that they have finally accepted a low offer. I've seen really nice Zs sit on the market at between $15-$20K for over a year. When they disappear I'll bet its not for the asking price.
