Firstly David, what version of installed application are you running, as V1.20 introduced the following:
    1. Lock-up engagement load protection function added.
    2. Solenoid self test added.
    3. Shift map version tag showed in SAW menu. Download the updated excel sheets for the map tag entry possibility.
    4. Shift-light in gauge function added.
    5. Pseudo 5th gear operation (instead of showing 'L' when locked-up). This feature is disabled by default.
    6. Map switch (OD-button) input as lock-up control (for easy operation on a dyno) This feature is disabled by default.
    7. Changes to the display (the middle dot shows the shift map chosen and the right dot shows the additional output status)
    8. Menu system reworked
    9. Annoying solenoid buzz with only ignition on removed

Secondly, if you purchased it as a second hand unit it maybe best that you reinstall the software so that all of the parameters are set back to default.

Thirdly, what type of diff do you have in your car because there are two distinct maps for a TT-diff and a NA-diff ... this is not what type of engine you have.

    --------

According to the User - Instruction manual; engine braking is only available in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Note: the following is from memory and a look at the manual and not my current setting on the car.

Section 3.3 of the user manual ...

    • Activate overrun clutch below throttle level percentage. I think mine is at the default which I guess in the user guide is 25 percent. This affects engine braking.
    • DISABLE - Auto downshift to 1st when stopped. DISABLE this as if your car gets a speed sensor problem and you happen to be flying a long a country road at say 100km/h and you hit a bump and your speed sensor goes to zero in manual-mode will change down to 1st gear and buzz the hell-out of your engine's red-line.
    • ENABLE - Pseudo 5th gear operation. When Enabled lockup is treated as a 5th gear and so that you can manually go down through the gears 5-4-3-2-1 whereas when Disabled goes L-3-2-1. The pseudo extra gear is more fun.

Section 3.4 of the user manual ...

    • Maximum line pressure above throttle level percentage. I would suggest something between 25 to 35 or else you will get a jerking 1-2 gear change, this also affects engine braking. This is one you will need to play with to get the level of 1st-2nd gear kick in the back that you are looking for, or smoothness.
    • Down shift to 3-2-1 gear. I would change is the down shift protection speeds, now this is very much dependent on your diff and gearbox types type, what you want is not to buzz the engine with too high a REVs on the downshift. This is one you will need to play with to end up at the right RPMs and in the area of the power-band you want.

Section 3.5 of the user manual ...

    • Activate oil temperature alarm above. Setting it to 100 should be fine though depends how hard you are going to play with the gears and what kind of gearbox oil cooling you have installed.
    • Activate shift alert above RPM. What ever level you desire, set it a 500rpm less so that by the time you see the shift-light to flipping the gear paddle you end up hitting your desire RPM line. for example 6500 rpm to get 7000 rpm desired shifts.

Section 3.6 of the user manual ...

    • ENABLE - Lock-up engagement load protection. If you disable this then that is at your own replacement gearbox risk.
    • Shut off level. I just left this at the default.

Section 3.7 of the user manual ...

    • Current shift map version. Ensure that you load the map which corresponds with your diff type as a NA loaded with a TT map. In automatic mode under hard acceleration, the engine will bounce against the 7000 rpm rev limiter before changing from 1st to 2nd gear.

    Thanks heaps for this info..

The unit was purchased new this year, and hadn't been installed prior to me.. I updated the mapping first thing as it was running a standard TT map.. although it still managed to bounce against the rev limiter with this.. - not sure if there are any mechanical differences with having a series two?

I am actually running software version 1.22 - which isn't even available on the website. I'm not 100% sure what the go with that is..

I have worked out that if i place the actual a/t stick into "2" as oposed to "D", then I have the ability to downshift to second and utilise the engine braking.. What is the difference between the two? (I thought that the SAW saw it all as "D" anyway?)

With regards to all the other settings, I have basically got what you already said - basically identical - runinng line pressure at 35, the only thing i will need to update to reflect is the automatic downshift to first..

Also, would it be too much to ask for you to show us what maps you're using for your NA? - I understand if its secret squirrel business :p :)
