Ive been sandblasting my own parts and am now offering this as a service to fellow members. Lower Plenum $50 inside and out Upper Plenum $80 Outside and Visible parts on inside Heads Outside only $50 each Radiator Water pipes $20 each or $30 for both Cam Covers $15 each or $50 the set of 4 (perfect way to prep for painting) Brake Calipers (Outside faces Only) $20 each Rotor Hubs $10 each The reason I started doing this is I took 2 plenums and some other stuff to be professionally cleaned and it cost me $150. It almost came back as bad as I left it, not impressed at all. They wouldnt hot tank them claiming it would eat the Alloy and used a Jet Wash instead. PM me to organise or call me on 0418 991 297 Heres a sample of the lower plenum which I did this afternoon Before After PM me to organise or call me on 0418 991 297 Cheers Stu
Great offer Stu.. The prices are better then going to get them sand blastered by a pro... Yeah the plenums kind of didnt come out too great in the jet wash i took a look at them and was like dont understand why they didnt hot tank them... I am sure people will use this service Stu
now that is seriously cool mate... show us your sand blasting equipment. im interested in getting the kit and doing my own stuff
Stu, I was going to ask a question but you already answereed it with your edit So $120 will see all of my calipers blasted and all of my rotor hubs blasted. I might have to take you up on that offer sometime in the future. Hopefully this service will be available for a few months. Also, after they have been blasted, what would I do to prevent surface rust from forming on the drive home (assuming I remove all the rotors and caliper's at my place). If its just fresh metal, have you sprayed your plenum with anything to prevent the moisture in the air from causing surface rust? Or am I going overboard with this?
The plenum is an aluminium alloy and therefore doesnt rust. The rotors and probably the calipers are a different metal that will rust. Generally RDA and other rotor manufacturers smear oil all over the surface of the rotor to prevent rust, which is then cleaned away when fitted. We can probably do something similar, oil em up then you can use brake cleaner to get the oil off for painting
Check out ebay. They have some cabinets. You would still need a compressor and some blasting grit I'm guessing.
Good Idea. I have a financial plan set-up for the car. Braided lines and painting calipers are third on my list. Won't be long before the time comes though. What part of melbourne are you in btw? Thanks Stu Sandeep
You shouldn't blast the machined surfaces as it reduces the ability to make a good seal. You're best taping over the machined surfaces (triming the tape with a sharp knife), masking tape usually works well. Fro aluminium, I hope you're using glass beads.
